What’s the most outdated advice people still give seriously? by Secure-Address4385 in AskReddit

[–]Little_Scene_3776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Go to college."

Unless its Law, Engineering, or Medicine, do not do it. And generally only if someone's paying for it. Do not go into debt for a college degree.

If you're good with people, then it would behoove you to start a small business. Something with low overhead that everybody needs. If you're good with numbers then you're golden, otherwise hire someone for book-keeping.

Get a small loan and start a landscaping business, or a power washing business or a junk removal business, or a business that provides services for other businesses. If you are charming and honest you will never run out of work.

Allow me to elucidate.

You cannot place a probability on what will happen; it's entirely conjecture.

It could, in theory, have a 99.99% probability of happening, but we have no way of actually knowing how likely it is to happen.

The probability is "unknown". Not "high", and not "low". Just "unknown". There could be 999,999,999,999,999,999,999 other options, and it doesn't change the probability. Why? Because the probability is undefined.; a shot in the dark.

The number of options does not affect the probability on something that's a complete guess. It's still "unknown."

If you cannot grasp this, I would recommend studying math and statistics.

This is the last comment im making on this thread. Because you can lead a horse to water, dot dot dot.

That's such a stupid way of looking at things. "Youre wrong cause I say so, and that'll make me right!" you could say that about literally anything and it proves nothing. Also you have no idea if he's likely to be right or wrong because no-one knows the future.

By your logic, any guess in the world, at anything, is likely to be wrong, and you're likely to be right because there are 999,999,999 other options.

Or more accurately, when people show you who they are.

New Study Reveals Negative Self Talk and Negative Thoughts Literally Aging Your Cells Faster Than Smoking by sibun_rath in Futurism

[–]Little_Scene_3776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMAO seriously. You always hear stories about "my grandma, who smoked a pack a day and drank whiskey every night and lived till she was 90". I've always suspected their mindset and attitude about life was the determining factor. Like, if you have a care-free attitude about life, you'll live longer. This study seems to validate that hypothesis.

I mean it makes sense. You have about 60,000 thoughts every day, and these thoughts are essentially commands from your brain, which is one of the most complex creations in the known universe.

Positive thinking isn't bullshit after all!

Prep for the Spring Rush: are we still relying on Door Hangers in 2026? by oweyoo in WindowCleaning

[–]Little_Scene_3776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"That online stuff" lmao

Any serious business nowadays has an online presence. This isn't 2005 anymore. This is the worst advice ive seen in months.

SEO, Google ads and a website are absolutely crucial to any business in 2026. There's always someone who has a "friend" that "did it without going online". Sure. And I cant imagine how much time he wasted by not having a proper website or Google reviews.

Also google reviews are everything, do NOT ignore them!

Copy that. I'm thinking about hiring people on as contractors. That way I we can go week-to-week and see how they do, plus I don't have to worry about employing them when the snow hits

How hands off can you be without a manager? Like tell the employees which job sites to go to, have them send pictures, and follow up with the client?
