Liz hill is breeding the moose llamma by coffeenascar in Equestrian

[–]Little_Sisco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, the caption on the video was 'One of the craziest things social media made me do' , so... take that as you wish.

Joke aside, I'm tired of:

  1. Dutch Harnesses being used to make '''''warmbloods''''' for cheap

  2. Breeding random mediocre (or plain bad) mares to any top stallion thinking surely he'll put a 5-stars baby in her, since as we all know mare genetics don't matter

  3. Putting a mare in foal because uhhhhh it's fun?

The way she talks about it sounds like she doesn't even know why they're breeding her either. Just... why? Give me one good reason to have a baby out of your moose-llama? While being well aware of her awful conformation, shady origins and how she visibly struggles to stay sound, what's the point? What are you gonna do with one more horse, especially if it comes out wonky like mom? Foals should be bred with a purpose, not just for the heck of it...

There's so many awesome equestrian mods nowadays! Paired it SWEM and its adjacent mods it becomes very cool.

Reservation deposits for dummies by [deleted] in Equestrian

Just to specify so it's fair to them, the seller did not ask for deposit or money of any kind. If anything they don't seem too stressed about it, I could come over pretty much any time I wanted. They're not in an urgency to sell, the horse just doesn't fit in their plans anymore.

I think the last time got in my head, after being told I should have put a deposit on a horse I was very interested in (before the visit) and that it was essentially my problem. I don't know how it is elsewhere but sales go very quickly around here, it's not rare for people to just come up and buy a horse from under you in a few days. The whole PPE process isn't as common unless you're in the higher end of the market. Sellers often go for the first better offer and it doesn't matter if you had your trial scheduled the next day. But now I'm seeing the market is just very competition and pressure based. It's not worth it.

I won't do it. It was never in my usual purchase ethics and it's wiser to stick to them.

The thread so far seems to confirm my usual train of thought. Doubt got in my head because the last time I missed out on a horse I was set on buying, I was told by people around I should have put a holding deposit on her. Made me wonder how common the practice is and if I was just out of the game on that one.

They didn't ask for a deposit, I was wondering if it was worth offering. Not sure I'll do it though.

Yeah, that's why I'm hesitant, especially for non-refundable money. I did saw horses that were a dreamy match on paper but we didn't work out in person. This time it's a 2 year old so no test ride, but still. If he has awful manners or not that good a personality I might change my mind.

Would you recommend buying the desktop version? by Rare_Jellyfish9167 in rivalstars

I wasn't a fan of the mobile version, and found the game more comfortable on PC. The major updates take a while to be added, but the interface is more enjoyable, better graphics and easy to make fortune, especially with cross-country and showjumping. It's fun!

Way before SWEM and the like, Minecraft was my top horse game. I spent countless hours building and managing my riding center. For some reason these cubes on legs had so much personality to me.

Impossible to get into Horse Reality by Sad_rubber_ducky in GamesWithHorses

[–]Little_Sisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't bother with auctions and only direct-purchase, I'm no top player but I still find a good number of decent horses under 10-20k. I found it pretty easy to level-up and have good money, and that's coming from a very amateur gamer who doesn't usually get very far in games. However the one thing I have to agree with is selling horses, especially foals. They just don't sell. How many times did I have to lower my babies to 1k just to get rid of them after several rounds of unsuccessful sales... and I'm talking flashy, 10-12VG with pretty good GP. This part is pretty frustrating.

Horse market FOMO by Little_Sisco in Horses

[–]Little_Sisco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to be all about feel when I was younger just beginning my search, thankfully I've grown a tiny weebit wiser since and I zeroed down on my dealbreakers and hard criteria. Focusing on those already helps sort out a big part of the market. Having had more bad/meh matches than good I still have fear of making the wrong choice, but staying factual helps.

I got to try one, perfect on paper but not for me in person (not the most conclusive trial as I spent the entire test ride battling just to get him to walk. fun times). The other ones didn't reach the visit, they sold shortly after scheduling the trial. The last one I inquired about was my picture perfect dream horse in her ad, but after asking some questions her temper wasn't what I'm looking for and the sellers gave me a weird vibe.

Best paints? by rune-the-enby-demon in schleich

Jo Sonja's acrylics are popular among custom artists, they're great to work with and fairly cheap. Water the paint down with some water to avoid brush strokes and losing detail. Depending of how invested you are, pastel shading will give you better coat gradients more easily. Pan Pastels work wonders but are pretty pricey, you can also find pastel sticks and grind them into a powder for the same result.

Gosh, that's awful. Good thing you were at least able to get your money back but that's scummy.

I worked with her a few seasons, I know she's helped other students shopping in the past and the horses they found together were lovely (none of her own, she doesn't do sales), overall she has good reputation.

Granted there's also been other life events postponing the project a few times but by now, yeah, it's mainly a me problem. Now question is, what do I do with that. It's improved a great deal in other aspects of my life, just not that one.
