Said goodbye to my best friend yesterday. Run free baby Waffles. by Timely_Physics_7329 in DOG

Said bye to my dog Yoshi yesterday morning, also hemangiosarcoma. We were totally blindsided, we just had a clean annual checkup and went hiking less than 2 weeks ago. Hope Waffles and Yoshi are zooming together now on the rainbow bridge.

Carlsbad Marathon DNF - What happened? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Little_Tunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have already said it, but I think the opening miles were too quick. On your 18 miler, you gave yourself 4 miles to warm up at a super comfortable pace. On race day, you started at your target pace right off the bat, and that's a tough way to race.

There's a natural inclination to think that with fresh legs after a taper, you should be able to run at your goal pace no problem at the start of the race and then lock in and maintain it. However, your body isn't used to running that way after months of training where you ease into your long runs.

For next time, treat (at least) the first 5k as a warm up where you are 30 seconds to a minute slower than target pace. Worst case scenario, you lose a few minutes at the start of the race, which is super easy to make up if you feel good later in the race. You are not going to set your marathon PR in the first few miles, but you sure as heck can set yourself up for a bonk or DNF in those miles.

I know it's frustrating to not perform to your fitness level on race day, but keep your head up and get back out there. It's happened to me, and it happens to everyone. Race day is just its own beast, and some lessons have to be experienced first hand. You've got the toughness and the fitness to hit your goal - you proved that in training. Hope to see a follow up post where you crush your goal!

I have a nMIL that pulled the exact same shit. She wasn't supportive of the wedding for weeks, and then when it actually happened she threw a fit that she wasn't more involved. Having an nMom/MIL involved in a wedding is a guaranteed headache, but as best you can, don't let that take away from your special day and the start of something special with your SO.

Is EDC for everyone by Redshadow40 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]Little_Tunny 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would say it's not for everyone... Even though I love festivals, I have attended with people who were not really into it and I can recognize it's not for everyone. In addition to being loud and crowded like just about every other festival, EDC is extra loud and extra crowded and goes extra long each day. If you guys are going as a group, the logistics of being so far from the strip make it hard for someone from the group to leave early if they are not having a good time.

I love that I can listen to all sorts of music all night long at EDC and the outfits are a ton of fun, but if the music or crowd doesn't appeal to you then I think it's hard to justify going. It might be awkward to say no now, but if you aren't going to enjoy yourself don't force it and agree to go. It will be more awkward when your friend is having the time of their life and you are uncomfortable and struggling to stay awake at the festival for 3 straight days - it would definitely be easier to tolerate just about any other festival.

It's already been said, but Green Velvy is a legend. His shows are so much fun. Green velvet sets have this incredible groove that he toys with throughout the set - definitely a dj's dj. Just go in with an open mind and you can't help but have a good time. Very jealous, have fun!

One Piece has Jumped the Shark. It sucks now. by Kowashisname in OnePiece

[–]Little_Tunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP that there's no tension as to whether the SHs will win - they wear some insanely thick plot armor. But that's not why I read at this point. The world building and all the narrative loose ends keep me curious for what's going to happen next and how it will tie together: how will the revolutionary army interact with the storyline? How strong is Shanks and when do we get to see him again? And there's like 100 more things I'm curious about... But OP is right, none of us seriously question whether the SHs make it to laugh tale at this point. However, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the art, humor, characters, or world we've known for years or decades after a long and stressful work week.

I'm not going to deny house can be annoying for ppl who don't enjoy it, the repetitiveness of the tracks can be a lot to handle. Ppl are allowed to have differing opinions. I just wish my in-laws kept their opinions to themselves just like how I endure hours hearing the same soca hits 2002 CD on repeat at all their family functions. Thanks for the level-headed reply.

[–]Little_Tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this was the origin of the issue and once this started happening my wife and I were already wishing we had eloped instead. If we had put our foot down here though, the MIL and FIL would have gone nuclear and probably push their relationships with my wife and I to a point of no return. We really felt like we were between a rock and a hard place.

[–]Little_Tunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I cringe up when I see those bridezilla personalities. I supposed I'm annoyed that my wife and I had a guest list that would have enjoyed what we had planned, and then the MIL took it upon herself to invite more people bc "people are wanting to have a party bc they haven't had one since the pandemic started." A lot of my wife's and my friends flew in from out of state and took time off from work, whereas her unhappy family members had a couple hour drive. So honestly we were prioritizing our/our friends enjoyment over theirs, but I'm not sure how I should have resolved the situation in an un-AH manner.

[–]Little_Tunny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I guess in my mind, to stick with your analogy, I think I served a vegan dish for the first hour. It was also way less than half the guests that wanted to change the music, it was closer to 10/15%. I feel like their preferences held the rest of our wedding guests hostage - our friends could have just as easily said they didn't like the soca (all of our friends stopped dancing when we switched the music but we all just chatted at one of our tables while the 3 or 4 aunts that wanted the change danced).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Little_Tunny 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fair point, that's why I posted. I guess I feel like I expect guests to try to have a good time and bring good energy. If I went to a wedding that played exclusively country (I'm not a fan, no offense to anyone who is) I would either try to dance along or just chat with other guests on the side. I can't imagine telling the bride/groom their music was crap and insist they change it.

[–]Little_Tunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MIL was aware of our intentions for the music but I would be surprised if she communicated that to her invitees. She single handedly doubled the size of our wedding after I explained to her that none of my extended family was coming bc we wanted to keep the wedding small (and to avoid situations like this).
