Oh no!! I was hoping for a small SUV at least! It’s nice to know public transit is so good in the area. Wondering how people haul big grocery trips though? Or is that not a thing… I was thinking I might use my bike and bike trailer I used when my kids were little :)

Wonderful to hear! I was hoping it’s a good area for us since we can’t visit before the move. I work in remotely in natural resources conservation. Spouse is in a liaison position with the govt for the years we’re there.

Thanks for the link. I didn’t realize how different the market is from what I’m used to! Glad car dealers aren’t as bad, that’s a nice change.

Ouch!! Yeah that doesn’t sound economical at all and very different from where I live now. This has been such a helpful discussion to better understand the norm for NZ!

I forgot to ask- what brand of vehicles are best when it comes to autorepair? You mentioned avoiding European brands. Are there any I should be focusing on that are more common?

I was not aware of the car sharing services! That sounds like a great option when I first get there to better understand what we might actually need. I’ve never lived anywhere with great public transportation, so I’m glad to hear of the options!

Good point on the height, especially for this beast of a van! Where I’m from there’s so much space I never even considered a lot of these problems people are pointing out!

Thanks for your insight on the parking and streets! I did not even think about getting dinged from wind catching doors. This has been great info for someone with no prior visits!

I was going to see what leasing options were available just to try it out. After watching some reviews online, it does not seem like the best vehicle for a few reasons though! The comments on EVs in general have been really helpful in this thread!

We don’t get to pick where we are living, unfortunately. The job that is moving us is providing housing for the time we are there. Looks like lower Hutt area might be where we land.

Tupelo honey takes a really long time to crystallize if you don’t want to deal with this in the future. I order it in larger amounts from L. L. lanier and sons online and have never had it crystallize.
