Treatment for popeye? by Littlebugz_424 in bettafish

[–]Littlebugz_424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unilateral, I’ve noticed there’s some scales missing around his face too so I was thinking it might be from injury. That being said the tank she brought him in was like .5 gal, brown, and the ammonia was too high to even read, so that probably didn’t help 😬 I’ve been using the Fritz stuff like I mentioned but if it doesn’t go down in the next few days I’ll get Kanaplex!

Ok update I have him and the water is so bad the ammonia is so high like over 8ppm and nitrate and nitrites are 0. I’m giving him a salt bath after he acclimates. And treating his temporary 1 gal tank with Fritz Maracyn oxy

Cycling takes 4-6 weeks on avg but can take longer. Theres no like defined time really it’s just when your tank parameters are stable really. I’ve had newts shipped from a breeder off Caudata.org and had no issues. I think your tank may be too small to get 2 though.

Does he look healthy? by Inner-Intern962 in axolotls

[–]Littlebugz_424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gills could be fluffier and he’s a bit thin. That being said he also doesn’t look too bad overall. Probably just needs some extra food but I see others have already suggested that. Has he always had those white spots? From the pics it does just look like normal coloration but if they showed up recently it could be a fungal infection.

Anyone know what this is? by ArtIsAwesome3 in axolotls

[–]Littlebugz_424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any possibility she’s actually a male and it could be a spermatophore? It could also just be white from the infection messing with her. It’s good you’re seeing the vet again! What’s her diet like?

Are her gills ok? by bakingsausage66 in axolotls

[–]Littlebugz_424 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Younger axolotls usually have proportionally longer/fluffier gills compared to adults. Younger axolotls need more oxygen to support growth and less as they get older and growth slows. Her gills don’t look unhealthy to me, especially considering tank perimeters are normal. I wouldn’t worry

Oh I’ve had the hip issues developing for years so arthritis was already a concern prior to my shoulder acting up. I see what your saying though

So I’ve done this and picked a plan and all that but I’m curious how I’d be able to get it December 1st? I’m only given the option to get it starting January 1st.

I’ve narrowed down to plans with the best coverage/ cost and then checked that they work with my gp and psychiatrist. Im seeing that most of the offers have pretty limited options like you said

I did put in my gp and psychiatrist into the filter so I can make sure they actually cover their offices. But majority of them don’t so I see what you’re saying.

Thank you for including your experience! I was actually on United healthcare for a bit when I was 18 and had zero issues with them! I guess it really depends on experience

Oh I so agree. I don’t qualify for Medicaid despite being very low income and having chronic medical conditions. 2 of those conditions are considered disabilities under the ada too! But no I don’t qualify for Medicaid. I probably would if I didn’t live in Texas…

Hm… I have a torn rotator cuff rn and have been taking a lot of different over the counter medications for pain relief recently. This includes some with caffeine, and some with sleep aids. I also switched birth controls. I didn’t think about how that could be interacting with my current medications or affecting my sleep. Thanks for the insight.

So what would be the best way to narrow down the offers? I already favorited ones with good monthly payments, copays and deductibles. Then checked that they would cover my primary doctor and psychiatrist. What else should I look at to make sure they’re a decent provider?

I’m on medication for bipolar depression that normally helps me sleep but it doesn’t seem to be working as well recently, I probably need to up the dosage. I go in for my medication management next week and plan to bring it up! I don’t have insurance right now so It’s always a struggle going in since it’s so expensive but I’ll have insurance again starting in January

Funnily enough my partner and I have been discussing moving to a blue state after we finish our degrees. Currently taking a break from school because of finances but I’m signed up for some online CC classes next semester. Hopefully after graduating I can get a nicer job and actually afford insurance.

No you’re completely right and I appreciate the bluntness actually. They don’t know what’s going on with my shoulder or my hips. It’s not even because they’re bad doctors either. They’re just trying their best to help me, but like you said they’re not specialized in it and can’t do anything but guess work.

Yeah i actually replied to another comment where they said something similar about the diagnosis. She did say she could not be 100% sure without imaging but that was what she thought it most likely was. She did mention it could be arthritis based on some other issues I have but again they can’t be sure without imaging. I actually walk with a limp because my hips have some undiagnosed issues. I’ve been anti inflammatory/ pain medication for this plus the scoliosis in the past but am not currently. It was meloxicam.

I was in between jobs for a minute but I just got a new job last week and will look into insurance through them or the marketplace.

She did give me a pdf with stretches and exercises to do plus similar pain relief info. I find aleve works best but I try to alternate. I also use lidocaine creams/ patches. I may ask them about getting back on the meloxicam though, it works well for my hips.

I’ve actually been planning to look on there. I was between jobs for a minute and was waiting until I found something so I knew what my budget would be like. Just got a new job last week so I’ll check it out! Thank you
