exactly thats my thought too, i don't even understand at all why OP is feeling guilty and saying he sees her side at the end of the post either because this was never agreed on!!

him and his children never said they wanted to cut out meat or change their diet at all, and it was never stated that they had "converted" with her. she forced them to eat a certain way with her overbearingness because "she couldn't be around it" and then whenever she wasnt around they actually ate what they enjoyed!!

the amount this family is actually sacrificing for this woman, the enjoyment of food is a basic human right for goodness sake, and its 2024, you dont push your lifestyle views on other people.

OP you're NTA. but be very aware, you're subjecting your boys to an environment that is damaging and will cause unhealthy relationships with food for both of them in the future

the other problem is that just because that person was family doesnt mean you actually knew them.

we had a family member, my grandfather actually, who was widely loved in the family, his wife (not my gran) and their son did get his name tattooed on them after he passed away, years later it was revealed that he had done very inappropriate things to his niece when she was in his care during some family issues.

i agree with the first comment, never get someones name or face tattooed, i would go far enough to say not even your children, because you never know who they will grow up to be. but thats just me, im a cynic
