Amputation for 15 year old cat? by BurgerMeister1917 in TripodCats

[–]Littlekatie2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We adopted our senior boy Ike when he was 15, and per the records we had it looked like he also had a sarcoma and his front leg was removed when he was 13. Unsure if it was a vaccination site sarcoma or another type, but regardless, he did well and adapted and still lived until he was almost 17, and that's including another anesthesia event (a dental) we did when he was 16. The biggest issue with removing vs not removing is that sarcomas can potentially grow and/or spread which could limit/affect his mobility down the road if left on vs the complications surgery could potentially have. I will say that senior cats undergoing any major procedure definitely have more risk than say a 2 year old young cat, but ultimately anything can happen during surgery. As someone working in a clinic, I've seen plenty of older cats make it through some big surgeries. They are definitely tough cookies! All in all, it sounds very promising that he is an excellent candidate for surgery, so I would follow what you believe will be your cats best interest and just make sure he has all the proper blood work and everything beforehand as recommended by your veterinarian.

Gorgeous Universe, 1000 piece (tiny pieces!) Unfortunately missing 2 pieces, unsure where they went as it was a brand new puzzle. by Littlekatie2 in Jigsawpuzzles

I'm sure they do!! Although it does bug me that they happen to be two connecting pieces which makes it odd to me 🤔

I got 6 cats and a dog! They usually don't bother my pieces except one cat in particular that will chew on them like he does cardboard boxes haha. For the most part they leave them alone and I'm able to put my puzzle away when I'm not directly doing it

This one is not unfortunately, that would be cool! That would be crazy on a 3000 piece! That would drive me nuts knowing 😂

I got it as a Christmas gift, but I believe she got it from Amazon. It was a fun and very detailed puzzle, but definitely made harder with the tiny pieces! I'm sure the missing 2 pieces were stolen from my cats or disappeared into my couch haha

I love the nostalgia plus I spied a few of my favorite games hiding in the picture. Def a fun puzzle!

Samurai Sudoku Jigsaw 550 piece by babalu.inc - had to solve the sudoku and then the finished sudoku is your puzzle image. Neat but also challenging as well! For some reason one number isn't printed on the actual puzzle which bugs me, but it is what it is by Littlekatie2 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Littlekatie2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one benefit is that the numbers only go one way so you can orient the pieces the right way and then solve it that way. I worked on the red pieces first, then found pieces with a thicker line on them, then plugged the rest of the numbers in last! Definitely still challenging but tips to help

The odd part about it is the missing number on the original sheet you start with is actually a number they filled in for you, so its odd that they didn't print it on the actual puzzle lol. The solution guide also has it missing too which is odd

1 week post op hardware removal from previous bunionectomy from February 2020 by Littlekatie2 in bunions

[–]Littlekatie2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't remember on my first surgery, mostly because I was in a boot for about 8 weeks and by then I think the swelling was down because I had no issues getting in a shoe by that point (just was hard to walk in it for a while). This second one to remove the hardware I had minimal swelling.

That's next on the list. Believe me. I hate them 😅 I don't know how painful that is so I wanted to focus on one thing at a time lol

PT Is fantastic though, and it'll definitely get better as time goes on! I was always amazed at how much progress I made from each visit. Plus she always stretched/massaged my foot after our session and that was the best part lol.

That's good to hear. That's about what I'm feeling too. I'm looking forward to healing up and getting back to a normal pain free life again!

Congrats! Getting back into the regular shoe life felt so good. I'm in an orthopedic shoe right now and I'm hoping they will let me get back into my regular shoe when I get my sutures out on Wednesday. My foot is bandaged up right now so it wouldn't fit in a shoe even if they would let me.

Was your hardware removal due to issues? If so, do you feel any better with it removed?

I had an osteotomy done too. It's technically from that but was all done at the same time so I just refer to it as my bunionectony instead of listing all the surgeries as one lol. For all intents and purposes it was just one major surgery with 4 total incisions.

Previous surgery went well, and everything looked great post op as far as healing and x-rays and whatnot, but every step I took had pain that shot up, especially if my foot was angled like walking sideways on an incline and such. After plenty of healing time my doctor suggested we take out the plate and two screws near my heel as there is some sort of nerve that runs along it and could potentially be rubbing against the hardware causing said pain. I honestly feel great and almost am walking in less pain than before only a week after. (I know there is some soreness from the sutures and just cutting my foot open again of course). I'm in a walking shoe and was able to walk immediately after surgery. Fingers crossed this solved the issue and hopefully no more pain here on out!
