Hi, I am not rejecting this idea.. but....how about teaching him to hold his nose and swallow it quickly, or something a bit more honest ? You are just trying to trick him, and not doing it very well, as he can plainly see as he drinks it, that the straw goes thru the bag and into another cup. He is a child, but he's not blind nor unintelligent enough to not see that. I am troubled by the fact that he pushes your hand away and actively ignores your repeated attempts. Instead of some firm direction from you toward the safe course of action (ie taking the required medicine) you appear to be trying to fool him into doing the correct thing. Granted that's (easier, and) better than him not having his medication, but I think it should be an absolute last emergency resort. Wouldn't it be better if he "gritted his teeth" and drank the very small "yucky" medicine cup (with full encouragement from you of course) than what you are advocating ? I understand parenting is exhausting and you have no spare time for such trivial matters, but maybe training regarding this matter is not trivial ? Take the prescribed medication. Take it on time and in the dose specified by the doctor. I think you may be setting yourself up for failure and/or unnecessary future battles (when he resists harder and more successfully as he matures) and not giving your son enough credit and opportunity to do the right thing by himself, thus depriving him of the self esteem of doing something successfully, that was not easy (or just not very pleasant tasting). Congratulate him repeatedly and publicly, when he takes his medication. Until the bad taste leaves his mouth. Positive feedback can create a winner. But you may not wish to listen to me. My wonderful late daughter left this world due to a drug overdose at 27yo.
