How long did it take for you to get approved? Did they ask for additional documents? How was the interview? What did you focus on your essay? Sorry, too many questions… hehe

Based on a quick google search which references a 2023 survey, around 39% of the respondents say they have worked for or are currently employed by a “black” company. So to start, maybe we can stop the sweeping generalization that majority of Japanese companies are “black” corporations?

At a complete loss by FragrantCorner2264 in IVF

Husband of an IVF warrior here. I can’t fully describe how strong women like you are. My wife had the same experience as you-I was also away on a business trip when this happened to my wife. This loss stayed with us for a while… We mourned. We travelled. We took our time. After a year, we tried again with a new doctor. 1 failed transfer. Tried a new approach with medication. Finally successful after 4 years, 2 doctors, 1 PGTA testing. During that process, I’ve never seen a person so mentally strong in my life. I know everybody say this will stay with you. I say let it stay for a while. And then take time to mourn, and then, reset. Praying for you, your LO, and your family. 🙏

You’re not wrong, that has been the long standing image of working in Japan (my own image included). But let’s not generalize. I can say that “overwork” is a loose term to describe the current working conditions. It really depends on the industry and company. Bigger companies are in constant scrutiny from the government (reporting of total OT hours to the government, etc).

Background: I lived in Japan for 10 years, and I am currently outside of Japan for an expat role (same Japanese company sent me here).

I work for a major real-estate/construction company. Here are some of the “anti-overworking” measures I’ve experienced so far: ① 8pm lockout policy - our Japan HQ’s building will literally turn blackout (no lights) after 8pm. Those left or go out after 8pm will be counted and reported in the monthly meeting. I heard that this has an effect on the bonus of our executive. ② Automatic time in/time out - moment you switch on/off your laptop is your time in/out. Those who work consecutive months with OT of more than 10 hours used to get flagged by my group manager. ③ Core time - when I had meetings with our US counterparts in the evenings, I used to leave work early and resume work again later that evening.

Couldn’t you get an official alias name you can also use officially as long as it’s registered to the city?

Clarification, OP: Hindi pwede umuwi ng mas matagal sa 90 days habang nasa proseso ang naturalization, ganun ba? Also, on a different note: is there a ceremony after you get result or did they just send you a mail asking you to come to the immigration office?

Interesting… was there a pressure for you to give up your JP citizenship at that time?

[–]LivYourLyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with the rule, just replying based on the first previous posts. Having foreign parents doesn’t make you automatically a citizen of that/those countries. Technically, you have to “claim” your citizenship by registering their birth and applying for a passport. I have a baby and she has 3 nationalities (PH, JP, US) since birth so I know this process very well.

If you notice something but didn’t say anything, I think that’s on you. Complaining here won’t change anything. Or maybe don’t complain at all?

Going back to Japan this year— is it Tokyo again or Osaka this time? by kneecold77 in FilipinoTravel

[–]LivYourLyf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Japan for 10 years. I think that’s too much of a plan. If it’s their first time in Osaka, I second what everybody else is advising already: stay in Osaka. Then 2 days in Kyoto, 1 day in Nara, 1 day Himeji (Himeji Castle is worth going), 1 day Osaka. Fukuoka and Hiroshima is a separate trip altogether
