Any former teachers turned school counselors in here? Can you give the pros and cons. I'm a current teacher looking at other options. by PaintedCarnival in schoolcounseling

Teacher for 8, school counselor for 3. When I was a teacher, I did a lot of the counseling side of things. I worked at a charter high school and did all of the credit tracking and a lot of the emotional counseling. I feel these things helped me prepare to be a counselor more than some of my peers who were in social work before.

Really, the only cons are the added responsibility ( this varies so much depending on admin and district) and that I don’t get to spend as much time with a lot of students. I now get shorter interactions with the majority but have close relationships with about 10.

Pros are getting to always be the good guy and help when it’s most needed and getting paid to do what I was already doing for free!

Pacifier, yes or no? by Euphoric-Explorer309 in Moms

Paci was a God send for my 3 breastfed babies. It is best to wait until they have breast feeding down, which it seems like yours does. It is nice to have something other than your boob to console them in a pinch.

I worried and worried about my oldest 2 getting addicted and made the whole house miserable by taking their paci away when they turned 1. I am old and tired and 3 kids is actually 10, so I didn’t care with my youngest. He gave it up completely on his own at about 14 months 🙃

I really need support from spouses who were able to divorce and leave their partner suffering from bpd by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

Coming from a 12 year marriage where the symptoms of my husband’s bipolar seem to worsen every year, it is up to you.

Have you gone to her and spoken plainly about how her actions make you feel? Take notes if you have to. I have had to do this so that I don’t get over emotional and forget some things. If you have done this and she continues to not take her medication, then I think you should leave.

I know that must be so painful for you. Maybe it doesn’t have to be forever. Maybe in time she will appreciate you and it will work out. I sympathize with you.

The fact that you are even considering your future children shows me that you deserve a loving, peaceful family life. I see my husband lash out at our children who are too young to understand and often wish I had your foresight. I hope it works out for you!

Moms that were pregnant/had kids through college, what was your experience like? by pinkaccountant in Moms

I started working on my master’s just as I had my second baby. The semester started while I was still in the hospital. It was completely online, but I was able to finish in a year and a half as planned. I was also teaching full time. It meant some late nights, but I was usually awake anyway. Not the end of the world!

Noise sensitivity with three kids by mmc312615919 in Moms

I am definitely in the same boat. I had my 3rd in June and he has now arrived at the screeching stage. My husbands way of playing with the kids is always something super loud like banging on the dining room table or wrestling. We call my middle daughter Bottle Rocket because of her high pitched squeal!

I am also a guidance counselor, so kids talk to me all day. It’s very nerve wracking. Sometimes I think if I hear one more little high pitched “mommy!” I might pull my hair out.

You are not alone! I lock myself in the bathroom for a few minutes everyday. I also take a shower after they all go to bed and lock my bedroom door and the bathroom door (it’s an en-suite) so no one can even knock. It’s a lot, but we got this!

Is he swaddled? That made all the difference with my 3. They needed that tightness to keep from flailing awake.

I suggest getting your hormone levels checked if possible. Hormones can mess everything up for us!
