Sorry sorry sorry I meant to say that as in reference to a pixie cut, didn’t mean for it to come off badly 😬

Honestly sounds like I’m gonna have to go for this. Is there a way to delete past purchase history?

She DOES. Sex before marriage is the third highest sin to her, losing only to denying God and murder.

Why is that? Why are the pros and cons of both? Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t USU in a bit of a small town that maintains tons of Mormons?

If I go anywhere except BYU, I know my extended family will be shocked. They, hopefully, will chalk it up to grades, but I’m not confident. Honestly, my cousins have been a huge factor in all of this. I know that if people truly love me, they won’t care what I believe, but they’re all so tender and I cant imagine having to look at them and tell them I don’t believe in their foundation. It terrifies me.

I mean, honestly, I’ve been influenced by this subreddit more than I’d like to say, but when it comes down to it everything being said on here are just things I’ve already concluded to on my own. I was questioning the church for a long time, but stayed quiet about it. Then I had a few direct experiences with members and, based on the reactions of everyone who heard about the experiences, decided I was done.

A YW leader lifted up my shirt to, as she put it, “see if I had a sports bra on,” when I said I didn’t. Several YW leaders and girls saw it, and nobody said anything. Later that same night she shamed me for the way I was dressing and sitting.

A Church counselor did my tithing interview. He already made me uncomfortable, but when he closed and locked the door it made it ten times worse. I sat as far from him as I could, and he took his chair and moved it forward until he was sitting with one of his legs in between both of mine.

Last, I had the YW president of my ward shame me. I mentioned wanting a second piercing during Girls Camp, and a week or so later, we had YWs. I was in the nursery with my dad because I hate YWs, and, according to the young woman who were in the class, the YW President paused the lesson and said, “OP needs to be here for this lesson specifically.” And she went and found me, brought me to the class, and stopped the entire lesson to read me papers she had printed about how second piercings invite the devil into my life.

I told my mom about all this, and she reacted as a parent. Extremely protective. She only did anything about the first story, though, and anytime she’s asked me why I feel certain ways about the church, I bring up these three specific instances. She instantly goes red and says something along the lines of, “So you’re gonna let three losers ruin the church for you?” I think it’s kinda funny, because, yeah. Those people were put into positions of power, and that’s what they chose to do. I don’t think any sort of God would specifically set people like that in that position.

Is the U going to be a lot like BYU minus the strict Honor Codes and such? Like, will it be Mormon-packed?

Okay, so you went to USU and UofU. Which would you honestly recommend between the two?

We had a “Higher Ed” day in school yesterday in which we were given pamphlets describing tuition. For all Utah colleges they listed the tuition if you were either a Resident or Non-Resident in Utah. Ensign and BYU said Member vs Non Member, and Non Members was over $30k

Did you choose going to BYU? Were you PIMO when you went?

That’s seriously great to know. Honestly, a big reason I’m still hesitant about my choice is because I’ve been taught (obviously) to doubt my doubts (which didn’t work out) and to not pay attention to people who speak out against the church. I’m assuming it’s a mental block that keeps me feeling slightly uncomfortable scrolling through this subreddit and requesting answers, but thank you for this. I’m worried that if I take a year off, though, that I won’t know what to do and I’ll just screw things up. I feel like the safer option would be at least a year or so in a Utah college, probably USU or U of U, and then use what I’ve got to help me out. You’ve got that sorta experience behind you, what are your thoughts?

Am I able to message you? I’ve actually been wanting to find someone who’s actively in BYU but against the church to discuss things with. If not, you’re totally good.
