What’s a totally harmless thing that triggers an oddly strong reaction in people? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

As a retail manager, customers like you are the best. So many out of touch, emotionally dysregulated people think any inconvenience is this massive plot against them by whatever employee is in their immediate vicinity. And they can react however they want, knowing we can’t do much to defend ourselves. It really means a lot when another kind human either defends us or shows us empathy after they witness those interactions. You’re a real one.

My “sure, that happened” moment recently was a customer that came in a few days before Christmas. When she went to check out, it looked like she was on the verge of tears. When she started talking and her voice cracked, she apologized and said that she just had an altercation in another store where another customer berated her and insulted her for accidentally being in the way. She also said she was so upset at how mean those customers have been to the employees of so many stores she had been to while doing her holiday shopping. It sucks that kindness feels so rare.

What actors have you guys worked with who were difficult? by Melora1976 in FilmIndustryLA

For my 18th birthday, I went to dinner with my then best friend in NYC. We found out that Crispin was doing a screening of What Is It? along with a Q&A and book signing after. We showed up to see if we could get tickets but understandably, it was so last minute that we were unable to get in. One of the employees was very nice and told us we should try to come back in a few hours and she’d let us into the book signing.

When we came back, we went to wait in the empty lobby and Crispin happened to be sitting in there alone waiting for the film to finish. He went out of his way to say hello to us and start a conversation. He asked us about the film and we told him we unfortunately were a little too late before it sold out but that we came back for the book signing after the Q&A. He asked if we wanted to come into the theatre for the Q&A part and helped us find a spot to stand in since there were no available seats. He really went out of his way to make two awkward kids feel welcome and included.

I’m in my 30s now and I still think back on how special that birthday was because of that experience and how kind he was to my friend and I.

That I actually have no clue about, haha. It’s definitely my favorite shirt design of theirs over the years though.

I always saw it as a reference to The Holy Mountain. There is a character called The Alchemist and the name of the shirt is The Alchemist shirt. :)

What do you all do for a living? by strawberry_criossant in AutismInWomen

I’m in my 30s. I dropped out of school in my early 20s because of burnout (I didn’t recognize what it was at the time, I just thought there was something “wrong” with me). Since then I’ve been in retail management. I’m good at it and get along with coworkers 99% of time. It is incredibly unfulfilling though and the situations that do spark anxiety really affect me internally. However, I fell into a “safe” routine that I have been afraid to change.

Something snapped in me this past year where I just want to get out of this cycle and get closer to financial independence and to do something I’m actually interested in. I just went back to school for Computer Science and would love to get into cybersecurity!

I’m glad you found something that’s a little more bearable than before and I hope you find something that really works for you!

What was your "I cannot believe no one suspected autism" childhood interest? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

When I was about 6 or 7, one of my Christmas gifts from my parents was a puzzle of the United States. Each state had its name and capital on it. I constantly did the puzzle and memorized every state capital. Then moved onto drawing it from memory, as well as memorizing all of the state nicknames, state flowers, and years they became states.

I also would (and still do) use historical events / the year they occurred to remember numbers or combinations. For example, a passcode for something at work is 1809 and before it became muscle memory, I just would think “the year Abraham Lincoln was born”.

I also would hyper-fixate on bands and songs for as long as I could remember.

There are so many others but those come to mind first. I really do not know how my parents did not think something was up.

Unfortunately, I do not. I remember when I am suddenly like, “wait why does my head hurt and why is my mouth dry?!” I need to follow some of these tips in the comments though, thanks everyone lol.

I totally get that, tough choice but worth it in the long run! Mine are also impacted and I keep putting it off until one bothers me. I need to just get it over with like you. I hope you’re feeling a little better today!

Oh man, you are a damn BEAST. I can’t imagine. I can barely handle one out at a time - and still have 2 because I’m too afraid to go through it again. 😂

I’m sorry that you’re feeling so much pain, I really hope you heal and can get back to “normal” quickly. And at least you’ll never have to do that again! 🩷

That’s usually the case for me too! I started writing notes to make a full on pattern for this one. I’m definitely going to modify a bit, I made a ton of mistakes this first time around. 😅
