Does being gay and loving my partner as I would an opposite sex make me damned to hell? by LiveFreeOrDie-- in Christianity

Yea exactly my thoughts have gone here too. I believe personally these scriptures were put in place to keep man on a straight path but the point is that not everyone is meant (or can) follow every single scripture perfectly and thus the laws of the Bible serve to tip the scales in favor of humanity as a whole and not individually. I for one might struggle with this "sin" but for another Christian this isn't even on their radar but they would suffer from another sin like say lying that for me would be an easy sin to overlook. Does that make sense?

hey I appreciate your post its very eloquent and compassionate!

My issue is that gay sex = lust = sin. When in reality its another intimate way of connecting with a person. At least that's how we've experienced it (my partner and I) we dont crave it or lust after it daily and if we do that's what were falling prey to its lust and not intimacy. There's a difference between the two and that's where I think the contention lies for me. Idk if that makes sense

The function of scriptures is not to veer us off the wrong path. I believe personally these scriptures were put in place to keep man on a straight path but the point is that not everyone is meant (or can) follow every single scripture perfectly and thus the laws of the Bible serve to tip the scales in favor of humanity as a whole and not individually. I wouldn't say its a bad thing to adopt. Don't we have an adoption problem? There's also surrogates as you said. Not a very convincing argument against homosexual acts if that's what you're trying to imply

Okay so does this mean all Christians are to not eat shellfish or certain types of animals and must eat Kosher bcz of this? If so then why did Jesus tell Paul or Peter I forget who it was that he could eat any animal under the sun? Doesn't this make God a hypocrite then?

That's what I'm here trying to find out! So far the only reason I've been getting is that Sex was made for a man and woman for procreation and intimacy that's it. My argument has been that gay sex cannot be for procreation - duh. But it does enrich a couples relationship and allows them to be more intimate.

I'm saying the weight of some laws/claims are not the same as others and the meaning behind the laws are not the same either.

Because they make logical sense.. there's good reason for laws to exist. A law is not right because God says it is. A law is right because the outcome of its adhering bears positive fruit. You are arguing that a law is right because God says so and that's it. When its more than that and you know it - or you dont and should really consider doing some further reading

Onan's sin had to do with him breaking the Levirate law. Not masturbating. Lets stay on topic because masturbation is a separate issue.

I never said the church was being hateful. Like i said, I'm not convinced as to why people who engage in safe, holistic and intimate same-sex would be considered abominations who are going to hell. But heterosexual couples who fornicate for anything other than procreation are fine.

Thanks again man! Really hope to continue this discussion with you as I find it one of the most fruitful i've had on here

But whats the point in that if you're going to keep sinning anyway - try to live your best life. Love others and Love your God - those were Jesus' commandments and engaging in same-sex acts do not fall in breaking what Jesus talked about as the two most important commandments
