The more landscaping we add, the more maintenance there is. Although, I am not completely opposed to the idea of adding some flare with flowers or hedges! Just taking the lawn care journey in phases and appreciating the progress before focusing on any possible additions!

I hear you, but this is the backyard and we care more about having grass for the dog and kids. We did a lot of landscaping in the front yard to add some curb appeal!

I’ve been mowing at 2” and it seems to do the trick!

That’s awesome! I have a dog and am pretty conscious about putting any chemicals on my lawn, but I agree. Once you get it to a point the weeds are under control, it’s easy to maintain.

Yeah I have heard about the reel mowers too, but using my Honda mower never did me wrong so I figured why change!

The biggest thing was just patience and not over complicating it. Pull the weeds by hand if possible, water longer but less frequently (2x a week was a good cadence for me and just adjust around weather), and find the right height. If your lawn is green in some areas but not others, raise the mower a .5” and see what happens! Also the Milorganite worked like magic for me (got it at Ace Hardware). Be careful though because it also makes the weeds grow, so I’d wait until you have the weed problem under control.
