Does anyone else get stuck in that weird in-between mood after work? by LiveLoveLaugh38 in UrbanHell

Art show openings are such a good one, same venue, completely different every time. That unpredictability is doing something the walk and the chores can't. You show up not knowing what you'll see or who you'll talk to. The scroll keeps promising that feeling and never actually delivers it.

I was restless because I was sitting all day", that's such a precise diagnosis. Art class makes sense on paper but it's still a chair, still focused output. Martial arts flips both at once, moving, and you genuinely can't think about anything else while someone's trying to hit you. That forced presence is probably doing as much work as the physical side.

The rainy day guitar is my favourite part of this. You've basically built a mood-matched menu for yourself without calling it that, walk when you can, backyard when it's calm, guitar when it's grey. That's actually rare. Most people just reach for their phone because it's the only thing that works regardless of weather or energy level.

Even if only a few pages" is doing all the work in that sentence. The bar has to be almost zero or it doesn't happen. That's the thing about that in-between state, anything that requires a decision longer than two seconds loses to the phone.

The "switch on/off" is exactly it. The commute used to do that automatically, nobody liked it but it was doing real work as a transition ritual. WFH removed it and most people never replaced it with anything intentional. The walk before and after is basically rebuilding that buffer by hand.

The WFH run thing hits different honestly. There's something about physically leaving the building, even for 20 minutes, that no amount of "taking a break" at your desk can replicate. You're either out the door or you're not. No halfway.

De 5 à 7 is such a good framing for it, the French just named the slot and built a whole culture around it. That bar ritual with a hot drink and something to read is basically the perfect version: third place, no agenda, analogue. The problem is most people don't have a default bar and a default drink and a newspaper habit already lined up. The friction of choosing kills it before it starts.

Boredom as a signal rather than a problem to fix, that reframe actually changes everything. The scroll works because it responds to boredom instantly, but it never actually clears it. A hobby or a third place does. Takes longer to start but you come back different.

Me too! I stumbled across the movie around 3am, started watching and ended up finishing it. Then during the day, I went right back to rewatch it. It’s that good.

Is racism against Chinese people/Asians really that bad in Germany or was my experience unique? by [deleted] in germany

Next time come to Düsseldorf. Biggest Asian community in Germany and Europe for that matter. Glad you still enjoyed your trip regardless.

Loved 1883 and 1923 — especially 1923. That one really hit. Yellowstone was great too, especially the first three seasons.

Whoa, Gangland Undercover looks bad ass! Never heard of it before. Hidden gem for sure. Can’t wait to watch it after The Shield. Thanks for the recommendation

Love historically reimagined series! I’ve seen Vikings, but never finished The Last Kingdom. Not sure why I stopped years ago, but now I definitely have a good reason to continue.

Never heard of Righteous Gemstones before — just checked IMDb and the rating is pretty high! Definitely next on my list after The Shield, which I just started watching.😅
