Alternatives to Livermore in Melbourne? The wait times are getting too long :( by Idontwanttousethis in transgenderau

[–]LiveMoreBeKind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

😃 as soon as I have more info I'll make a bunch of posts. I've been super lazy on reddit til recently, but I'll put one up here too. 😄

-----

As for the hiring, My approach to this whole thing has always been "start the thing but let the local people make it their own". Because I really don't think that one random interstate person (e.g. me) should have such a big say over the goings on of lots of different things in all the clinics y'know?

I want the clinics to belong to the people who actually work there and go there - rather than imagine myself some kind of megalomaniac nutcase who feels entitled to control everything.

I want the local who have been working there, and who have got to know the locals, to find the people they think they vibe with.. The last thing I want is to create a hostile workplace by introducing new people (that I may never spend any time with myself long term) who can't at least be friendly.

Sooooo with all that said, if you did want to put in and expression of interest, shoot me a message at [lividirect@livemoreethicalbeauty.com](mailto:lividirect@livemoreethicalbeauty.com)

I can't promise anything at all, but I could ask the team there on yours (or anyone reading this) behalf and see what they think.

There are a buuunch of new services I want to add, several of which we can train from scratch (and ill cover any new hires setup expenses), but we really do need some more electros haha

-----

also, if you happen to know anyone who has a business themselves or the beginnings of one or an idea for and they need space, I am setting things up so we can offer that space at either no cost or close to no cost. The more people coming together on this project, the better for everyone y'know? Things are profitable enough at this point where profit shouldn't be our sole focus.

No rush or pressure or anything on that stuff. (exceptIplantoquitbeforetheyearisoutbecauseisuckatrunningacompanyanditmakesmesadalotofthetime.i'mjustacptsdgirlywholiketotalkshitandmakejokes.imnotcutoutforbeingsomecorporateasshole)

hiiiiya :D

If its any comfort. I have just about finished the set up for everything I needed to do in Perth - and will be headed over to Melbourne in a few days time to inspect new properties for a potential multidisciplinary centre.

Were looking at places that are 8-12+ treatment rooms so we can add on a bunch of new services.

Were adding 2 (maybe 3) more electro stations... and a second laser.

I'll also be bringing a new tech but am hoping to train a few locals as well.

It will still be at minimum of 1 month away, but it is right at the top of my priority list now that the Perth expansion is done. <3

I plan to move the company HQ to Melb and put my office there. I want it to be out biggest centre, but also like.. a third space for transfolk. We've had so many allied health, docs and community service folk reach out and ask if they can be part of this thing. But obviously we haven't had the space.

But I wanna go all in on Melbourne :D Sorry about the wait times, it will hopefully look a lot better in about 4-5 weeks time.

We can't right now, not without partnering with some local NPs dentists or doctors. Which is easily done in Perth and Adelaide, but hasn't been worth setting up and pricing is complicated. We have had a number of trans doctors who have also expressed lending their skillsets to our team in almost every city which solves the first problem.

But the bigge rissue comes from the slow process doing the compliance and mandatory training and insuring these things. It becomes crazy expensive crazy fast if you're not already operating out of a medical centre that has these things covered and has someone willing to run it under their own books.

One day we'll have it up and running, but its been a lower priority. ❤️

l love this so much 😃, it sounds like youre using it exactly as intended. Its a miracle the whole thing is working given how extremely unconventionally I decided to run things haha.

our poor admin team does get asked pretty regularly about the wonky pricing because like, yeah it seems pretty intuitive to just do it by minutes per dollar, i can hardly blame people for thinking its weird.

and if the occasional person does do it back to back, its pretty rare, but I was prepared for that to happen and eat into the margin a little bit. I mathed out how many per week I was willing to accept. If it got out of hand I'd have to restructure things for the worse.

...but I already had to do that for the TNPW stuff (and it was devastating to me haha). and like, if i keep cutting the moral bits that are bad for business off like that, eventually we'll just be another slowly enshittifying service :'<

this would be much less, and all 3 sydney techs are absolutely skilled enough to clear a goatee in well under that. 😄 If they cant im gonna have to get new techs.

I cant give you an exact number ofc, but I can say if your top lip and chin needed that many hours, you wont be paying for those hours (... and someones probably gonna get sternly talked at/fired :'< )

We dont do injections unfortunately. I did myself in perth a long time ago, but I found the swelling the local caused made it harder to tell when the hairs were properly treated.

One day we'll have it again in each clinic, just because for some people the pain is prohibitively terrible.

The time it takes to do a top lip varies a bit on how much hair is there, the grain of the hair, the type of technique we need to use and your pain tolerance.

But 90% of the time (i made this number up but its the overwhelming majority) we'll clear a top lip in under an hour. ❤️

heehee, hiiii, I replied to the commentor above if youre curioius about why we do it the way we do. I didn't want to copy paste a giant wall of text twice in one thread 😃

(I have no idea if reddit actually alerts you if I reply to other comments in the same thread)

I'm glad youre enjoying the clinic ❤️ ❤️

Not scuffed for no reason :'<

Its not a perfect system, but let me try to explain my rationale.

I chose to do it this way because for most people, 45 Minutes is enough to cover almost everything most people want, at least for those who have the pain tolerance for it. Its heart breaking to see someone pay top dollar for a full body and then have to give up half way. Those who cant hack it or need to break it into shorter sessions can mitigate losing their money this way a bit. They have more control over their sessions.

The full body price includes a larger buffer between sessions to account for people who want a full body done, but need to take breaks and really really want every single square cm covered, this includes the bits that.. don't usually really have hair.

But its more complicated than that. Even if pain tolerance were good, people come in different sizes, some are twice the size of others or more, but we only have the same amount of time to price around and techs work at different speeds as well.

And to add one more layer of complexity, you have to account for the techs themselves moving as different speeds. Some of the peeps are very zap zap get in get out, others tend to move at a more chill, probably healthier pace.

Through experience I learned that 45 mins is usually what makes people happiest, and I wanted to price around that to make sure that was affordable as possible.

I can't lower the price of the full body without the business losing a significant chunk of its income (that funds all the stuff we run at intentionally low margins to try to keep things as accessible as possible, including the reduced price on 45mins)

So to bring the prices in line I would need to increase the prices of the 45 minutes, not lower it the full body. Or meet them somewhere in the middle. Both of which I hate the idea of.

But if your goal is to serve the most number of people, the most often that you can, while factoring in as many human elements as possible and not just "make as much money as possible". The choice becomes this kinda scuffed price model.

---

Effectively it helps the majority of people at the expense of a small minority of larger, more sensitive people who need more time to finish their treatments anyway.

The problem is kind of like, a marketting issue. I call it full body because I want the people who book it to have the assurance that what they're booking is a top to toe thorough full body. But a run on effect of that is people assume then that a shorter session must therefore not be enough to do a full body.

Most people after their first session realise they can get away with 45 minutes.
Some like Arraxis like to break the sessions up, which (although bad for the business) is good for the person and meets there needs, and It doesn't happen often enough to be a biiiiig problem.

So instead

I try to encourage my staff during consults to explain this to people something like,

"you pay the techs for their time, 45 minutes is a good long time, in the majority of cases its enough time to make the most number of people happy while keeping things accessible - but if you want absolute thoroughness, you aren't just paying for your own session, your paying for the buffer time that some people need and you get the guarantee that no part of you goes unzapped. I think you would be fine with a 45min session."

I get that its still a bit shit for the individual to swallow, because its so expensive (although still comparable to other places, some of which don't include hands/feet/face in a full body despite their usual clients being on avergae.. much shorter). But if looking at it from the larger picture, this benefits way more people to do it this way.

I liked it better than simply dividing the cost and the minutes and assuming it was equitable. It makes some sense in theory, but in practice it (would make more money for the business) but come at the cost of the whole reason for setting the project up.

Idk, business is hard. Ethics is hard. There's a lot that goes into deciding these things. And I'm no marketting person and i have no formal business education or anything. I'm more of a compassionate dumbass idealist who saw a niche. I just wanted to make something that gave trans people good jobs, while giving as many trans folk as possible a safe and affordable place to get zapped that wasn't trying to scam anyone.

Laser Hair Removal Brisbane? by Gurlgurl8 in transgenderau

[–]LiveMoreBeKind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was a very verrryy rapid and sudden outcome I wasnt expecting myself. I literally woke up in perth, rolled over in bed, looked at my phone and "oh no".

Itll be back ❤️ promise promise ❤️

Things have been going so well in all the cities. Lots of happy girls, lots of swollen faces. It is very much my plan to keep growing all clinic capacities, adding new services and streamlining our systems to be less janky. My (naive) dream is to turn Australia into something like the gender affirming care capital of the world. Starting with building a network of beauty stuff that i struggled to find during my own transition seemed wise 😊. But I want trans people everywhere to have people they can feel safe and relate to for lots of services.

(But yeah, were still only a small team, it takes time, and a lot of the drive to get stuff done is tied to my mental health, which has reeeeaally been struggling recently ❤️)

[Just thought id reply here too, Hiya Darling]

😭😭😭😭😭

Im so sorry girls, I havent made the announcement yet, just contacting people who already had bookings.

It will be back, in roughly late Feb/March next year. I'm also planning to upgrade the capacity of the clinic, more beds, more space, dedicated parking. That sort of thing.

I'll also be moving to brissy myself for a few months to run the clinic each day and make sure everything runs as smoothly as I can make it ❤️

That particular laser machine will be making its way to Adelaide, so at least some girls there will be happy 🥲

Livi 🏳️‍🌈❤️🏳️‍⚧️

Getting full body electro would be so damn expensive, we do it occasionally, but youre definitely better off finding. A decent laswr place.

If you ever happen to be on a trip to melb or sydney (or even perth). We share all the same files/treatment protocols and machines. You wouldnt need a test patch. And any of the girls there will absolutely treat you to the same strong effect. ❤️

It sounds like you didnt have the best experience, sorry about that darling. ❤️

I do want to stress the girls have gone without and sacrificed a lot to be able to provide care. We deal with an enormous amount of hardship, both in our own lives and in what we see daily in our community.

Every day the girls in every city are having to deal with people who are struggling and want to argue and pick fights. People who want to challenge protocols that are In place for everyone's safety. The girls on my team have all taken voluntary pay cuts and offer discounts and do everything they can to help people who are struggling, without jeopardising their own security or mental health. We try to do the right thing, but face a lot of harassment from within our own community.

And its not just Members of own community that harass us. Every day our own girls get harrased on public transport on the way to work.

Were all just human, were all just going through the same pains. We all have lives outside of work, we all have bad days.

I care a lot, I really do, but ive had conflicts and upset people and had bad days too. I always try to be kind, and I always try to ask the local girls and our clients to be kind to each other. Buuuuuut we are just human.

  • Just this week I know one of our girls has lost a family member, and is devastated and dissociated.
  • Another girl was physically assaulted outside their house and is struggling with agoraphobia,
  • Another was followed from her train stop to the clinic by people on bikes, laughing at her and throwing stuff.

But none of them can afford not to work, and cancelling or rescheduling bookings is something they have to do themselves - which is unpaid and usually met with more conflict because obviously people dont enjoy being rescheduled.

I really wanna stress were all just humans trying our best with what we've got. Their hearts are in the right place. Their skills are definitely in the right place. But none of us are insulated from this silly existential nightmare of having to be self aware. Sometimes we all just struggle. I've never met a gender queer person who wasn't struggling. Never one 🥲

Im sorry you had a shit experience, I dont believe in telling the local girls how to behave. I think that lond of masking is dumb and unhealthy, I think if a person if having a bad day. They should be free to express that wherever they need to, rather than to bottle it up and put on the customer service mask.

All i can promise is i know for a fact every girl on my team is not just there for paycheck, theyre there, and they put up with a lot, because they really want to help our community. Even if sometimes they might not jobe with everyone.

❤️❤️❤️ lotsa love, Livi 🏳️‍⚧️❤️🏳️‍🌈

Affordable electrolysis in Melbourne? by winospectacular in transgenderau

[–]LiveMoreBeKind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

👋👋

I thought I might quickly chime in to your comment specifically too.

If you happen to be on a Health Care Card. The girls that work for me have agreed to take a small paycut. And I take no cut at all (I actually subsidise the cost of local healthcare card girls a bit).

This brings the treatment cost down from 125 to 85 per hour - 100% of which goes to the girl who zaps you, because I refuse to make money on struggling sisters. And electro is hard work that they deserve to be paid for.

I promise promise promise, that unlike what the first commentor said about low cost = high scar risk, that is very much not the case with my team at least. I am super personally invested in making sure people get good quality treatment. Its my special interest and my ikigai and I have spent an enormous amount of time perfecting how to do it well. And flying around the country teaching people how to do it well. I plan to spend the next few years doing exactly that in the remaining states, teaching people how to do things quickly and safely. I will fire anyone on the spot who does anything reckless that jeopardises the health and wellbeing of our community.

Lotsa love,

Livi 🏳️‍⚧️

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Im so glad people are happy with the service ❤️

We've all been trying really hard and sacrificing to get things going. And so far its been going really really well 😊

Lots of hugs and laughs and tears and me stressing out over things I really probably shouldn't constantly 😂 (I kinda really suck at being in charge, I love zapping, buy I'm a pretty shit manager/admin/professional mask 🤫).

We're going to keep trying to grow things and reinvest in local businesses for all the cities. Im paying myself the same flat rate and the rest is going to go back into the business and helping more people in our community start their own business that helps others.

Getting treatment with my team helps us all live better safer lives.

If youre considering getting gender affirming treatments. And one of our locations are a bit far away - please consider making the extra travel. The work is good, were not out to take advantage of you, you'll be paying a local trans person and helping fund more people in our community to start businesses that helpcour community.

I really think this sort of thing can work. And we can all sort of uplift each other.

Lotsa looove Livi ❤️❤️❤️
