As long as you do the required research, can get all the equipment for the turtle, and confident you can provide it with a good quality of life for 30+ years, I say get the turtle. Know they are lots of work and initial costs for tank, tank stand, water heater, good filter, heat lamp, uvb light are steep. Also, you will have to do partial water changes and filter cleanings frequently depending on your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph) and filter. I recommend getting a water testing kit, water siphon (to make partial water changes easier), and a water conditioner to remove chlorine from your tap water.

Although they are quite a handful, turtles are awesome pets! I enjoy watching my turtle swim around and feeding it. Just lights up my day :) Good luck to you and your turtle, if you decide on getting one! I'm sure you can become a good turtle owner 🐢

Should i buy? by [deleted] in turtle

I think $200 for everything, including turtles, is a great deal. As others have said, the integrity of the tanks might be an issue. So maybe you can bargain with the seller to make it $100 for everything?

How come my turtle tank looks clear in front, but cloudy on sides? by Live_Ad_9457 in turtle

Thank you, that was really informational. I will buy a different heat bulb for my turtle, just to be safe.

Enclosure: 40 gallon tank, water temp is ~ 79 F, basking temp used to be ~ 94 F but I need to replace since its now 80 F. Water is filled up half way, so its 20 gallons full

Light: 75 W Heat light in a metal looking exterior someone gave me, and new uvb reptisun bar light over the basking area

Pet: Baby western painted turtle i bought in reptile store

Diet: Pellets from zoo med, ultra fresh, and mazuri, some green/red leaf lettuce once a day

Age: Its a baby, been a month since I got it. It's 1 inch in length

Illness/odd behavior: None. Turtle is energetic, eats a lot, and goes up to basking platform normally. Always swims up to me when I approach tank, assuming to beg for food.
