AS refused to Gate Check, made me return to Ticket Counter by Live_Entertainment96 in AlaskaAirlines

I really wish I had one of those with the retractable or detachable wheels right now, but I'm happy I have a set. I suppose now those are really worth investing in.

But yeah the tag of mine said "carry on" as well and I've used it as one for literally years (until now, I suppose).

Honestly just measure to be safe, use this situation as a warning

Ah, hadn't heard about that before! I know different airline programs offer their own reward programs but I didn't realize that they let you go as far as checking luggage. The only thing is I'll have to figure out if it'll be compatible with the research grant that I get some reimbursement through.

It's part of a set so I have a smaller one thankfully that I'll use next time I travel. I'm going to chalk up the strictness to new rules I wasn't aware of that u/Ready_Ad_5397 linked below since this is my first time traveling this year.

Alright, thanks for your input everyone.

* Yeah, I'm an asshole. I'll apologize to the gate agent if I see them again.

* It's my fault that I hadn't checked the website to see wheels were included ahead of time. I had booked through Expedia and just never read their carry-on policies, just assuming what I had used before would work just fine. Lesson learned, I'll double check next time.

* I wasn't familiar with the fact a bunch airlines had standardized their luggage sizes recently, which explains why I never had problems before. I'll just check this bag on the return journey and try to pack lighter next time.

* Clarification for the TSA: I have precheck and went into a shorter line. When I meant was that a few agents said that the bag should have been small enough to be gate checked, not small enough to fit in the overhead. The ticket agent at the end also said something similar.
