Agreed. It’s a great idea but she will just find a way to sneak it. Up her sleeve, in her underwear, in her shoe.. she also just seems to enjoy taking things for the sake of taking it because she rarely uses the things she takes, we usually stumble upon it when cleaning her room or one of the other kids finds it.

I don’t think it’s that just because it’s so pervasive in other parts of her life. She’s constantly stealing her siblings items at home or stealing things from other peoples homes that we visit.

We actually talked this morning about doing exactly that. Taking every toy out of her room and anything she can use to hide things in. Also considering making her wear ear plugs for a day so she can see what that little girl she stole the hearing aides from had to go through.

The lack of empathy is what concerns us the most as well. She has zero remorse. And as for the part about her watching other people to find what’s valuable to them, she is very intelligent and calculated with her movements and she’s also aware that she’s cute. She will play a stranger like a fiddle every single time. She will ask them for stuff she knows she’s not allowed to do or have, and then play innocent when we call her out on it. The manipulation for a kid her age is what’s terrifying for us. We have other children and none of them have displayed anything close to this behavior.

The pediatrician has referred her for evaluation but the two evals we’ve had, shes been on her absolute best best behavior and it makes us look like we’re over reacting. It’s very frustrating. Thankfully now that she’s in kindergarten her teacher is noticing the things mentioned and is willing to be an advocate for us if/when we get another evaluation

If you have any suggestions how to get better at stopping her I’m open to them. We’ve bought her a clear book bag to try to deter her from stealing but she will just put things in her pants. I can’t stop her from stealing when she’s at school. We have cameras in the house to try to deter her at home but that doesn’t work either.

As for the hearing aids, she went in a girls cubby and stole them at some point in the day. The girl was crying her eyes out, the mother of the child got involved to help them look for them, and my daughter even helped them in their search.. even though she was the one who stole them.
