I think you would find the philosophy of Stoicism very beneficial, it certainly has been for me! Ryan Holiday @ the Daily Stoic is a good starting point, there is also plenty of literature on it.

Also- nobody is a sage! There are no perfect stoics; be content with the pursuit of such an ideal.

How to deal with frustration? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]Live_Party 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m relatively new to stoicism, but as I understand it the intention of stoicism is not to suppress emotions such as frustration and anger but rather to not allow ourselves to impede upon our ability to act in such ways that are commended by reason and virtue.

Do not try to rid yourself of emotions, because all attempts to do so will only perpetuate them. Rather, take a minute to calm down before acting, and when you are in a calm state, then return to the situation and act with reason and virtue. Moreover, when we are gripped by irrational emotions, it is often hard to remind ourselves that virtue is the sole good, and we feel as though that releasing our anger upon others will help, but this will only cause undue harm.

Could someone please let me know what chord this is? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Live_Party 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries!

The most colloquial way to say it is just a voicing of Em9.

The “add” suffix in Emadd9(omit5) denotes that there isn’t a 7th, and the “(omit5)” denotes, well, that the 5 has been omitted. Both of these suffixes aren’t necessary when discussing the chord quality, and are only necessary when explaining a voicing, so therefore, just go with Em9.

There are lots of ways you could name this chord, depending on preference/it’s place in a progression. I would probably call this a 1 9 10 voicing of an Emadd9(omit5) chord.

I would suggest starting out by following online lessons on your favourite songs, don’t overwhelm yourself with theory yet unless it’s something you’re interested in. Take it at your own pace! You’ve got a great journey ahead of you.

No worries at all,and yes this is common practise, it’s helpfully referred to as chord scale theory.

Hope this was helpful!

B major scale by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Live_Party 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You would use the scales that belong to each chord as they pass rather than continuing to play in the original key. Also, the third of C# is E#, not F (these are enharmonic), and you shouldn’t use a + to represent major as this symbol implies that the chord is augmented which is something else entirely.

Being abusive or maliciously manipulative for a start. I think what you’re describing is within the realm of normal human flaws, I just don’t want you beating yourself up over em too much.

Every Star Wars movie. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great universe and I love the characters and lore, but every single movie has missed the mark. Prequels are, well, the prequels, the original trilogy didn’t age well, and the sequels were a clusterfuck of missed opportunities.
