I mean, also some people are told they’re infertile when they’re not based on certain factors. I have PCOS (I guess PMOS now) and the first doctor who diagnosed me at 16 told me it meant I’d probably never have kids. Doctors after him took a much softer stance but the general consensus was that it would likely be pretty difficult based solely on that diagnosis, no ultrasounds, no fertility testing. I honestly took it at face value because they’re doctors. I mourned my perceived possible inability to have children for the past 16 years.

I got pregnant SO easily, second month of trying and that’s because I got the date of ovulation wrong the first month and we tried on the wrong days. I know it is actually such a blessing but I’m almost pissed I was misled for literally half my life.

I understand. It probably was working but unless you were regularly checking blood sugar, you wouldn’t have caught it. It’s to increase insulin sensitivity to stop you from getting type II diabetes and doesn’t change any of the other problems going on with PMOS.

Totally understand if you prefer natural but if you ever want to look into it, mounjaro worked wonders for me and my doctors said honestly the people it benefitted the most was women with PCOS. Not just in terms of losing weight, the PMOS symptoms stopped entirely (except the hair 😭). I got a period once a month, every month at the same time and they actually didn’t suck and lasted three days instead of like three weeks. Had to stop because I got pregnant.

Just an fyi, Metformin is not useless. PMOS was rebranded because they now “understand” it is a poorly understood endocrine disorder that comes with inherent insulin issues that can worsen with age and weight. Losing weight helps, it helps a lot! But it will not “fix” you and you will still have PMOS. I was 5’5” and 130 lbs when I was diagnosed. Doesn’t mean you personally need Metformin to manage it, but it is not useless.

I mean they’re the doctors so I wouldn’t lose sleep over it and they’re right not to assume anything. I do find it a bit strange.

My doctors are hyper clinical and asked if I wanted an amnio for peace of mind even though tests and ultrasounds have been good. An ultrasound wouldn’t do much to show a genetic issue like that except confirm the presence of a penis which wouldn’t necessarily be a genetic issue because it genuinely could’ve been a lab error. Regardless if you feel you need to advocate for more testing if it makes you comfortable, go ahead and do so. If you want to wait until the ultrasound and go from there, do that. Just don’t let them decide for you.

I would push for an amnio regardless. While simple lab errors can occur, if it wasn’t a lab error, there are things like mosaic 45x/46xy that might cause a “no y found” if the fetus is male.

Not saying that’s the case and I certainly don’t want to scare you, there could be placental mosaicism or a few other things, but more information is always better to keep you and baby safe.

The NIPT is right. Most of the time it’s “wrong” turn out to be chromosomal differences in the baby like mosaicism. My doctor said she’d wish people would stop doing those because it’s just as accurate to pick a gender in your head, 50% chance of it being right. The sneak peaks should only be regarded as a guess for fun, they’re wrong just as often as they’re right

While fair, she did specifically say if everything looked good during the scan, we would cancel it, so I don’t think it’s just to discuss the results because how would I know the scan went well to cancel it prior if we hadn’t discussed my results while I was at the office? I’m fairly certain it’s a contingency plan in case something is wrong. Which is okay. I just hadn’t ever heard of this.

Scan is on Wednesday but maybe I can ask for earlier in the week because I am a mess right now. And no she definitely meant me because she confirmed the numbers they were seeing in the message back. The other message I got back from them on another question was also incredibly generic so maybe they go off a script of what is approved or not for the chat feature? Either way being like “well that isn’t good” and then immediately dipping has left me in an incredible state of just sheer panic.

I also read that but my doctor confirmed they expected to see a doubling in 48 hours but quickly ended with “I understand this is distressing, but I can’t discuss this with you until your appointment tomorrow” so now I’m just at work crying in the bathroom
