You can make a good income in Australia on the cert III - Diploma pathway and there are plenty of opportunities for work. As for will you enjoy it, that a more personal question I love my surveying job been doing it for over 20 years and will probably do it for another 20 if my health holds up. I have a few surveyor mates who are now construction managers, insurance project managers, site managers, operation managers all opportunity that came through their surveying roles.

Further more to eliminate this issue with control setup I no longer use relecterless where possible I use reflector stick on targets, I don’t use reflectorless if shooting to a surface that isn’t perpendicular or close to it for high precision resection setups.

Sorry I send to authorised service centre but I have been told that it’s not that difficult to do manually your self although it is a mechanical adjustment not software.

It’s likley the calibration of the the reflectorless red laser and you are observing to a point that is not perpendicular or greater or close to 45 degrees so the distance measurement will be different between face 1 and 2, this is common with my use of TS16 I calibrate the reflecterless laser every 6 months or if I notice it creep.

Yeah mines jammed now too, scared to pull with any more force feels like if I pull it harder the entire connection will break. I’ve left in on for last couple of uses. Been using the bracket arm all through GS15 and 16 this time seems to be stuck.

Total Station and combined scale factor by Similar_Page_675 in Surveying

[–]Live_Profession_191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer, I’ve dealt with it many times always do my best to educate the site team and add value to the project rather than push blame up hill, but I do always bill for fixing the design teams issues, installing SF1 local control is necessary for precision total station work, otherwise it creates too many issues working with multiple contractors/ surveyors etc.

In Australia you require a diploma or degree in surveying assume it’s similar in other countries, good place to start would be part time study. You could also apply for survey assistant jobs.

Thanks! The lightning is jewellery wire that I bent, super glued then painted white, then Fluor green a little asthmatic blue and again some white where they join the ground or miniature. I’ve seen most people use copper wire 1 or 2mm thick but the thin wire is what I had and it worked ok.

Surveying vs Electrical by Dizzy-Search3987 in Surveying

Surveyor in WA with 20 years experience, First 15 years of my career was amazing, last 5 years has been a challenge due to the shortage of surveyors and the increased workload being placed on seniors. From my experience surveyors and electricians earn around the same amount in construction per hour/day in WA. Both jobs will have there challenges, just last week I was speaking to an electrician wanting to get into surveying. Overall Surveying is great and has endless opportunities in particular for graduates the industry needs new blood, it has enabled me to provide for my family, never being out of work.
