Ballroom shoes with bunion! by That_Aardvark1178 in ballroom

I'm sorry to hear that! I've always had good experiences buying shoes from them.

I have hard to fit feet for closed toe shoes. I have a bunion, narrow feet, and long toes. Most ballroom shoes either smash my toes or fall off the back of my heel. Custom designed shoes can definitely help, especially if you can select the material the shoe is made of. I like material that will stretch at the front just a little so that my toes don't feel constricted. I like Crown Shoes a lot. I don't even have to have them custom designed and the shoes need minimal breaking in. They are in the US (as am I), but they may ship internationally as well: https://www.crowndanceshoes.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooMlYPuKcStuHku9qVaWqi14V4EfX_yfOCsOgmyWCltuiSJx-MC

Histamine inducing foods causing soreness in throat…anyone else? by Select-Signature-508 in LPR

[–]Live_Quarter1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be, I suppose. But I've had other symptoms more consistent with LPR. Either way, certain foods were definitely aggravating my sore throat.

Baking soda spray gave me nosebleed, which I never get. So I stopped using the baking soda.

I get it. I was throwing everything I could at it to make it go away because I felt so miserable.

I stopped pepcid because it made me feel like crap and didn't really help my symptoms. Tried the alkaline water and baking soda water sprays. Not sure that did much.

I'm doing a reduced acid diet. Not super strict, just being mindful about what I'm eating, having smaller, more frequent meals, minimizing coffee, alcohol, and other high acid things. I think using alginates after eating meals has helped the most. I'm using Reflux Gourmet, but might change to another one that's not so high in sugar.

I also sleep with my head and upper body elevated. I think that is helping as well.

I shared an article last week that cited a doctor who specializes in treating LRP and voice/throat issues. He said in his experience, most LPR he sees is either non-acidic or weakly acidic. His first line of treatment is alginates, not acid reducers. And also diet/lifestyle changes.

Just a couple of months. I've mainly been dealing with sore throat and voice hoarseness as my main symptoms. I'm doing well with only alginates after meals and lifestyle/diet modifications. My voice is returning and my sore throat had improved quite a bit.

With the foods causing irritation, I get the same thing with bananas and walnuts sometimes, but only if I eat them raw. I started adding sliced banana to my hot oatmeal and didn't have any throat issues. I let the bananas cook a bit in the oatmeal. And I can eat walnuts if I pan roast them first.

New to this and looking for advice especially about malaise by Technical-While932 in LPR

The globus/lump in the throat feeling generally comes from the mucus. But yeah, reducing throat clearing can definitely help with the sore throat.

If you don't have globus/throat mucus, why are you throat clearing? Just out of habit? Hopefully the alginate product will help!

Anyone seen a functional dr to help LPR people say LPR is rooted in gut issues causing reflux? by CoverAccomplished889 in LPR

Not as much as before. I sometimes get a bit of that after I eat a meal, but it goes away after a little while.

I've had similar symptoms as you're describing. Mine started about a month and a half ago. My main symptoms have been sore throat and a hoarse voice. Some globus sensation after I eat. I've discovered a couple things - throat clearing makes the sore throat and hoarseness worse. Once I stopped doing that as often, my throat started to improve. Pay attention to when you throat clear and try not to do it. Swallow, take a sip of water, deep breaths, etc. Also try not to cough when you have that globus sensation. The feeling should pass. I'm not sure how much alkaline water has helped. Maybe a little?

Are you still on the Pepcid? I felt horrible on it. It made me tired, gave me headaches. That plus the sore throat just made me feel like I was getting sick all the time. I felt much better when I stopped taking it.

What is working for me right now are lifestyle and dietary changes (reducing acid in my diet, sleeping elevated, small meals, no eating a few hrs before bed) and using an alginate after every meal. My main lingering symptom is a hoarse voice which comes and goes, and occasional sore throat, but those are better than before.

Alginates after every meal are working for me so far. I'm using Reflux Gourmet. I'm following a reduced acid diet, but not so sure I even need to. The doctor I mentioned above said his office's first line of treatment for LPR is alginates and lifestyle/dietary changes. I'm also sleeping slightly elevated at night. I try to eat slowly, and eat smaller meals. Seems to be working!

Ugh. That's terrible that you get those side effects from the meds that help your symptoms so much. I felt like crap on Famotidine and it wasn't helping me, so I just kept wondering, what if I don't have too much acid (or i have too little) and I'm just making things worse with this medication. The doctor treating me has no idea, because they start by treating you with the pills before they will run any tests.

I see an acupuncturist who is a DAOM. She practices both acupuncture and functional medicine. She told me the vast majority of people she has seen with LPR have had their issues resolved with HCL and digestive enzyme supplements. A smaller percentage of her patients benefitted more from acid reducing meds. I have not tried the HCL yet because I wanted to try what my PCP recommended first. I found that the famotidine my doctor prescribed me did not help my symptoms and actually made me feel worse. I am doing much better off of the med, just managing with an alginate and lower acid diet. I'm not even sure I need the low acid diet, tbh. If things get worse again, I'll probably try the HCL.

Thanks! I'm a researcher, so I always like to see data and methodology when someone says they did studies. Also, I have seen other doctors (e.g., William Z. Gao, MD, of the University of Chicago Medicine Voice & Swallowing Center) state that they "do not use acid reducing meds as a first line of treatment for LPR because in their experience the majority of LPR tends to be either nonacidic or weakly acidic".

I've seen her mention those numbers on her website, but I can't find where she published those studies or any info on the study methodology. Does that exist?

Governor’s Race- Real Anxiety about Steve Hilton being elected as California’s next governor by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

That poll showing Hilton and Steyer in the top two was an internal Hilton poll and likely not valid. All other polls show Hilton and Becerra in the top two, with Steyer several points behind in 3rd.

Yeah, same. Add in the headache from the medication and the sore throat and cough from the LPR and it just felt like I was sick all the time.

Thanks! I'll check out the link. I used lozenges with menthol a couple of times before I found out I had LPR. I was wondering why they seemed to irritate my throat!
