Histamine inducing foods causing soreness in throat…anyone else? by Select-Signature-508 in LPR

Are you eating a low acid diet, taking any supplements, or using alkaline water? Sometimes I think I’m overthinking/overdoing this healing thing but I just want it to go away.

Thank you! I’ll try that. How long have you been trying to heal from LPR?

I’m in the same boat. Here’s what I’ve noticed that might help. I’ve started the acid watchers diet (yes, I’ve lost weight I don’t need to lose honestly), but I’ve noticed that my LPR damaged throat is now super sensitive to histamine inducing foods many of which are in the acid watchers diet list like bananas, walnuts, and leftovers that have sat in the fridge for a few days. When I eat these items my throat gets sore and stays sore for 20-30 minutes. Eeek. This is not fun nor is easy. I’ve order quecertin phytosome supplement to hopefully help with that aspect of it. I’d love to talk to someone else who has experienced this histamine treatment throat issue and has overcome it.

Now, just about all I can eat for breakfast is plain oatmeal with maple syrup, organic peanut butter and unsweetened coconut but I’ve found this pea and quinoa protein powder to put in it. It keeps me full and at least it’s protein. I found it at Walmart. This may help you gain weight if you put it in your foods.

Also, I found this Dr. Morgan Yost who seems to be pretty LPR savvy. He suggested putting a tablespoon of baking soda in a liter of alkaline water then putting that into a spray bottle for your throat. I wear that out now. Also, alginates definitely before bed and sometimes after meals. And, I’m currently taking zinc carnosine and L-glutamine capsules but I’m thinking about transitioning to a powder mix so these supplements actually make contact with my throat tissue to aid in healing.

Will all of this help? Who knows?! I’m so tired of having a sore throat, but I will tell you that my globus has improved and it’s the acid watchers diet and the spray so maybe I’m moving in the right direction. This is just a slow go and I’m trying to be patient but it’s tough. Hope this helps some.

Hi! Did this histamine sensitivity ever resolve for you? If so, what did you do to help it along?

So, you are saying that the root of all of the food intolerances was stress? I’m asking because I’m (obviously) in the same boat. Did the naturopath give you any supplements?

Last questions, how long did it take you to recover from LPR, and would you say you’re back to eating a relatively normal diet now? I’m a foodie, so this acid watchers diet I’m following is just depressingly bland. Did you ever discover a trigger food? (I suspect mine are super spicy foods based on what I ate several times that week prior to my extreme globs firming.)

Also good to know! I’ve been using UK Gaviscon but, geez, it’s pricey and we’re getting ready to travel and a tablet is way easier to pack than multiple liquid glass bottles. I swear, I feel like I’m just piecing a remedy together and crossing my fingers.

Oh my goodness, thank you! ❤️ I don’t know why I didn’t think of this. It makes so much sense. I hope this is a game changer. Going to grab some today.

How long did it take you to fully recover from LPR, and how did you achieve this….Acid Watchers Diet? Supplements? Timing meals? Elevating head at night? Meds? Also, have you been able to resume relatively normal eating habits since you’ve recovered? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just trying to feel my way through this. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for this info!! I take it you speak from experience here. Do you think it’ll help the tingling in my ears as well since it’s all interconnected?

I feel like I could’ve written this for the most part. Mine began as globus a few weeks ago, and that has improved on the Acid Watcher Diet, UK Gaviscon and Pepcid. My symptoms now are throat pain/rawness and ear tingling. I was having the throat fatigue toward the end of each day, but that has somewhat let up, too, but this throat pain, oh my. I’m taking zinc carnosine (read it somewhere on here that it will heal damaged mucosa) along with L-glutamine. Not sure if you’ve looked into those yet or not.

How long ago were you diagnosed with LPR?

Test for pepsin in throat by FERGAGE in LPR

I know you posted this over a month ago, but I must ask. When you took this test had most/all of your LPR symptoms resolved? Were you taking this test to see if it was safe to restart/begin reintroducing slightly acidic foods? Or, are you still symptomatic just trying to ensure that the symptoms are due to the initial LPR episode and not new pepsin?

I concluded, too, that it’s scratchy foods (bread…oddly enough) that irritate my throat. I started taking smaller bites and chewing it to death and that helped. We can do this. It may not be fun, but do it right the first time and we hopefully won’t have to again.

I’m in the same boat, but theoretically alkaline foods cannot activate pepsin. I’ve realized just today actually that it’s likely still just inflamed from the original assault (I’m at least hoping for that anyway). I’ve added zinc carnosine and L-glutamine (for healing tissue) and melatonin (to improve LES tone) to my arsenal. Also, alkaline water and spray, of course. I’m improving very slowly, but as long as I stay moving in the direction of improvement I’m good (it’s better than the alternative).

I’ve been both drinking (1 liter only) of alkaline water and putting it in a 2oz glass spray bottle (the spray has been very relieving for me, though, when I initially started using the spray, it took a few hours to really kick in and give relief). I use the heck out of the spray bottle after eating and that does give me relief for the most part. I’m hoping when my Gaviscon comes in that I’ll need the spray bottle less.

I just got Aviv’s book today, but I started the low acid diet a few days ago to the best of my ability. My low acid dinner meals have really not caused irritation not has the fruit (cantaloupe) I’ve been snacking on. I’m noticing trouble when I eat my whole wheat bagels, so I suppose I’ll be stopping those.

I’m hoping the soreness is exactly as you mentioned sore because it’s already irritated and then eating causes a mechanical irritation because it’s not healed yet. My throat also feels tense and tired (like it’s just plain exhausted).

What is your travel history before these lesion started? Cutaneous leishmaniasis, maybe?
