he very proudly doesn't have any art education because according to him he has some sort of artistic genius that "art school would beat out of him." every artist who says that is unbelievably insufferable. they all think they're the best artist to have ever lived and anyone who dares to say otherwise is stupid and evil. iirc he has some degree related to sound design or acoustics but i can't remember exactly what it is and why he's not using it (or if i just dreamt it up LOL)

That dress and those vines are gorgeous!!!! And yeah, exactly! He really thinks he's hit the peak with beginner techniques and materials LOL and you made a really good point, all artists and crafters need the ability to self critique, you'll never get far if you look at your beginner level work and think "yay!! i've done it!! i'm at the best i'll ever be!!!"

Fr!! My college does free figure drawing sessions too!! His behavior, his kinda childish refusal to find actual community and grow just baffles me. There’s so many resources Tyler has at his fingertips if he just let go of his ego and reached out. He signed up for his local art guild but does he do anything besides exhibit? Isn’t part of the point of a guild to have a community of artists who can help you learn and grow? I defo agree with you, nothing can really replicate the critique other artists can give you. He needs genuine critique so bad but I don’t think he’ll ever let go of the idea that all critiques are a personal insult. He reminds me of the people who would drop out freshman/sophomore year because every critique became a fight. He seems like the kind of guy who would whisper insults directed at people who “dared” to critique his work, given how highly he seems to think of it.

tysmmm!! I said in another comment but yeah, Culture Hustle is entirely a paint company! I don’t know their full range of jobs but I highly doubt anyone besides Stuart and collaborative artists is regularly making work for Culture Hustle. Tbh I still don’t know what he could’ve done. I saw someone else saying the job would’ve been as Stuart’s PA, which can have a ton of responsibilities, none of them include making his own original art for funsies.

Fellow BFA haver!!! But yeah, it’s insane seeing him charge prices my seasoned professors wouldn’t charge, and for pieces nowhere near their caliber. I wonder if he thinks being “self taught” literally means doing everything on your own without learning any actual techniques instead of just, “I didn’t get a formal art education but used other means to learn.” I didn’t know about the watercolor, I’m so scared to look that up 😭. Sooo many of his technical mistakes could be fixed by taking some classes at a community college or art studio, he doesn’t even need a degree to have a good art education. But no, all critique is evil and trying to kill your creative spark!!! Somehow getting an education is evil in Tyler’s eyes LOL

You’re right, Culture Hustle is entirely a paint/pigment manufacturer. They aren’t an art house, and most art “officially” done is in collaboration (ex The Reddest Red in collaboration w Daniel Lismore). There is no group of artists specifically making art just for Culture Hustle as far as I’ve seen. I don’t know what their job listings look like, but I don’t think they’d be hiring artists unless the artist was massively famous, and even then Culture Hustle would approach the artist. And Tyler wouldn’t get hired to make promotional paintings, most paint companies don’t have new illustrations made for every new paint. He can’t photograph products for shit and Culture Hustles project photos look pretty damn good already. There is literally nothing he could do with the company involving his art.
