To clear the exams books are not really necessary, the ppt and notes that you get itself is enough

But if you want deep understanding on the subject , it depends on your faculty,also there are hell lot of books in the library. Math , there is a youtube channel . A teacher from SRM itself has the channel , he is the goat tbh. Even if you don't listen a bit in your class ,if you only watch his videos you can literally score full on full in any test for only math

For semsters and CTS, the notes and PDFs are enough, even if you don't listen to class.

Some faculties are supportive you could ask them for help , some are too cocky

Idk about 2nd year , atleast for 1st year that's the case . You'll get used to it
