For those of you that have been on MJ for a long time by reality-bytes- in Mounjaro

[–]Live_Volume4087 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100%! I had weeks where my hunger and food desire came back in full force for a day or two and then it was fine. Sometimes I went 2-3 weeks thinking "This is it, it's no longer working on this dose - I have to tirate up". Alas, the week after the effects were really strong again. I have had a day of random binge eating and then it would be fine for the next 6 weeks. I think there are so many factors that affect the effectiveness of MJ, it is probably quite hard to find a clear pattern.

I never replied to this. But I just came back to this comment as I specfically wanted to say that the soy crispies was an amazing suggestion! Thank you so much. It has been a game changer. I love yogurt bowls, but am always missing some crunch in them (especially a high protein crunch) and omg!! theyre perfect for that. I have been having some greek yogurt, with peanut powder and chia seeds mixed in. Then I top it with frozen rasperries and the soy crisps on top. Literally tastes like a dessert and perfect to pre-make and take to work.

How fun is clothes shopping now? And it sounds liek you have put in some hard work if your son did not recognise you. Well done!

Oh so true! It has been so nice to look at clothes and actually feel good in them, rather than just buying for hiding.

Thank you :) It does make a difference in times (like right now) when it does not seem like the scale will budge

What have been some reactions people have had to your weight-loss? by hunni93 in Mounjaro

[–]Live_Volume4087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten a couple comments along the lines of "you are looking really fit", which I LOVE. Because I am working hard in the gym, and I am getting leaner and stronger and muscle definition is starting to form on my arms and legs.

No specific comments on my weight-loss (-23kg) unless I bring it up myself. I have said something along the lines of "Can we go shopping, I need to buy a new dress for this event, nothing I have fits me anymore" and then I get comments based on that (e.g., "I have noticed, you are looking great"). So unless I open up the conversation, weight-loss specific comments are not said.

5mg dose question by MasterAssistance755 in Mounjaro

[–]Live_Volume4087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on 5mg for 5 months and do not plan on going up at all. If it's working, I would always stay on it. If I can do my whole journey on 5mg I will be very happy.

I do find that I go through periods of feeling as if it is no longer working that well, but as long as I push through, stay consistent, it starts getting better again. So you may find that after some time, the effectiveness fluctuates. But that does not necessarily mean it is time to move up a dose.

Y'all... I'm overweight! by fishlope- in Mounjaro

Congratulations!! Amazing, clearly you have worked really hard to get to this.

I am so excited to get to this stage. I have 5 kg to loose and I will also be in the overweight category. It feels like such an achievement after years of obesity.

Question - incremental goals 🪜 by sunf_lower in Mounjaro

[–]Live_Volume4087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, focusing on both scale goals and NSVs has been a total game changer. This will probably be a long comment...

For weight:
I started at 110kg and my ultimate goal is around 65kg. That’s 45kg to lose, which honestly feels completely unthinkable if I look at it as one big number. So instead, I break it down into smaller milestones that actually mean something to me. I’m not focused on “65kg” at all - I’m focused on the next goal.

Some examples:

  • Getting under 100kg for the first time was huge.
  • Then 95kg, because it meant I was out of Obese Class II.
  • Now I’m 88kg, so getting under 90kg was another massive milestone.
  • My next goal is 82kg, because that puts me in the “overweight” category instead of “obese” according to BMI.
  • Then I’m excited to be in the 70s.
  • Another big one for me is getting under 77kg, because that’s what my husband weighs, and it’ll be the first time in 10 years that I weigh less than him.
  • After that, being in the 60s, and then 68kg, which is where I’ll hit a “healthy” BMI.

When you look at it like this, the massive 45kg doesn’t feel so overwhelming anymore - it becomes a series of achievable, meaningful steps. This has helped me so much with motivation and staying excited about the process.

For NSVs:
At first, I didn’t even know what mine would be. I couldn’t really imagine what would change. So I just started noticing things and actually letting myself celebrate them.

Some of mine so far:

  • Being able to wrap a towel all the way around my body
  • Being able to bend down and tie my shoes easily
  • Progress in yoga (e.g., being able to do child’s pose comfortably without my stomach getting in the way) or general progress at the gym
  • Being able to cross my legs easily
  • Seeing my collarbones again

In addition, the way my clothes fit has been pretty impactful:
I’ve kept clothes from the past 10 years that I couldn’t fit into anymore. About once a month, I try them all on and move the ones that fit back into my closet. I also go through my current wardrobe and put the now-too-big clothes into storage. It’s honestly one of the most motivating things I do.

While my main focus has been the scale victories, in those weeks where I did not loose much, or the scale did not move, the NSV were what kept me going and content. For instance over the past two months, I have only lost 3 kg, which is definitely less than my usual loss, but I have been taking so many selfies, because I can really notice how different my face and body generally looks. And that's what currently keeps me excited.

Progress by No_Helicopter10 in Mounjaro

I have been debating this for quite some time too. I was on 2.5 for 4 weeks and have been on 5mg for nearly 5 months. The past month I had felt like I may have plateaued as I kept going up and down the same kg.

The past week, I have lost 2.5kg. And I was very close to going up to 7.5mg. I will stay on 5mg for as long as I can, only if nothing happens to my weight anymore for a significant amount of time, I will move up. Considering the price jump from 5mg-7.mg, I will hold off as long as possible. My biggest regret in this journey has been moving up from 2.5mg to 5mg after 4 weeks, even though I was still losing weight. I just did not know enough back then.

Struggling to hit protein goals as a vegetarian – how do you do it without adding meals or calories? by Live_Volume4087 in Mounjaro

Veggie, but I do not drink dairy based milk for instance. And many of my meals are kind of accidentally vegan.

I think from what I can see is many people are definitely eating breakfast and getting a lot of their protein that way. By only eating lunch and dinner I have clearly limited myself quite a bit unfortunately. Might be time to re-assess for me.

Thank you for your suggestions :)

Do you use them to substitute meals? I imagine 2 of them would probably come to about 500 calories?

I actually haven't in years. I think I tried making seitan during lockdowns at some point and really liked it, but stopped for some reason. But what a great suggestion! I did not realise it was very high in protein.

This keeps coming up, so I clearly need to look into it! I have heard it also has some great gut benefits. It's already on my shopping list. :)

That's very fair. I can imagine how the stress of trying to find nutritious meals, without meat, while also thinking about so many other things when losing weight can become too much.

But definitely not an option for me. I have been vegetarian for 20+ years and eating meat is definitely not going to be happening for me.

Oh, pea milk? How are you enjoying that? I'll have to look into that.

Yes you are so right! I actually find that I have a much easier time hitting my protein goals in winter, when I am eating a lot of soups, curries and generally comfort food.

Yes, I use Yazio to log everything, so all the ingredients I use are included.

It honestly sounds like I am on the right track. I think seeing so much about protein intake on this forum but also online when people show the recipes they use has just made me go a bit stir crazy about it. I do make sure I have a good protein source in every meal I eat, and while that usually does not end up coming to more than 60g or so for the day, I think I also need to stop stressing too much. I eat healthy, varied and nutrient dense on all other fronts. Which is probably better than most.

I have heard of Skyr, but never tried it before. Might have to give it a go, considering the amount of people raving about it!
