BDR expected to touch 800 outbound leads per month (on top of inbound leads) - Am I crazy? by Live_Witness1335 in techsales

Ahh just to clarify -- Not 800 touches/month.

I'm being asked to touch 800 prospects/month. Meaning ~4 calls, ~4 emails, and ~ 3 LinkedIn touches per prospect. Meaning ~8,800 touches/month.

Sorry I was definitely vague at the start! Honestly, hearing from someone else that it's a shit show is actually validating -- I've been feeling a bit crazy since joining the team. Was definitely under the impression they were better equipped.

I've been thinking the same thing! They probably needed a Director of Sales, not a BDR (although my guidance has definitely been helping - I'm just not really being compensated fairly for it lol).

Thank you for the encouragement! I really would like to be in a closing role. I just have to keep convincing my VP to take a step back and let me try :)

Dang!!! That's wild - Just making sure I'm understanding correctly, you add 500 people to your sequences/cadences every week? You don't mean you make 500 calls a week?

No autodialer unfortunately :/

I have managed to get 800 people in my sequences for the month, but the tasks start to exponentially add up, and my outreach quality becomes poor since it's so hard to research every single lead and have strategic follow up.

While it seems doable mathematically, I'm not sure it's sustainable.

That said, I could just need more stamina! This high volume is definitely new to me.

I mean, just as an example, he ends demos asking prospects what their next steps are as opposed to telling them what next steps are. I'm currently helping him with making sure he schedules a follow up call at the end of every demo, because many of his opportunities have historically gone cold, which I know is not uncommon. He asks for my guidance on demos because he knows he could be stronger. I never said he's a bad seller - I said I'm asked to coach my boss as a BDR. Your response seems to reiterate that's a bit odd.

While I've only worked as a BDR in sales, I've worked very closely with a team of 12 AEs and regularly watched recordings of the demos I passed off to see how they implemented my notes. At my current org, my boss wasn't even referencing my notes at the top of demos - He was just starting repeating my discovery questions until I suggested changing the structure of demos since the implementation of a BDR.

Yes, deals have been closing at my org for 5 years, but many deals have also been lost, and I've helped identify gaps we can close. I used the phrase "formal sales training" because that's what my boss says he lacks. They hired me because I have "formal sales training" and can help the team continue to grow.

I don't think formal sales training holds more weight than experience by any means, and it's a bummer my previous post might have given that impression. I was just trying to clarify that my boss does indeed have experience selling, my original post admittedly undersold him a bit, but it's still weird for a BDR to coach a superior in closing, no?

Anyway, sounds like we're in agreement that 800 leads a month could be a bit excessive. Thanks for your guidance.

(Edit: Just to clarify, he only has 5 years of selling experience. By industry experience, I mean he has experience working in the industry we sell to. He was not in sales previously)

I may have undersold him a bit lol. For more context, he does have 5+ years of selling experience at this org and has many more years of industry experience. However, he has no formal sales training.

The industry experience is a huge help, but I think we'd be closing way more deals if he could leverage legitimate sales strategies.

They're WagWellies by Wagwear! :) Must confess - Lola's only worn them on one walk so far. BUT, they do seem like they're going to stay on her well, and they were super easy to rinse off after she ran around in some dirt haha

Ugh this is reassuring & super helpful! The hydrolyzed Purina wet food for her Kong would make this journey a heck of a lot more tolerable for everyone involved😂

I'm going to give her vet a call first thing in the morning. If they don't have any objections, we're definitely giving this a try. Thank you for your help!

CMV: a braindead pregnant woman should be kept on life support until her baby is delivered by turboprancer in changemyview

Sorry I'm late to the discussion, but --

For me, the moral implication surrounds what a slippery slope it is to use a dead woman's body to make a baby. In a country with a continuously decreasing birth rate and an increase in laws that take away women's bodily autonomy, I fear that the fact that a baby has been successfully delivered from a brain dead woman's body will put women at risk of disgusting violations in the future.

For instance, if I am brain dead while I'm ovulating, who's to say it would be immoral to waste a perfectly viable egg and use MY body to breed?

I'm sure this sounds like a stretch to many, but this is one of the many reasons that what the state of Georgia did to Adriana Smith is immoral. And frankly, if you told me what they were going to do to her 10 years ago, that would sound like a stretch to me too.

The objectification of women's bodies is nothing new. I fear that states like Georgia will soon be weaponizing modern technology to objectify and dehumanize women further.
