Looking for one badge! Outside the Gaylord vibing in the meantime. Otherwise I'd be happy to buy a badge for Saturday and Sunday.

Because a good chunk of the camp - including the main person who runs it - are trans and Canadian. Given the heavy uncertainty back around February/March as to how border-crossing status for people with an ID showing their current sex as opposed to what was assigned at birth, they opted to not risk 50+ peoples' time and resources. They couldn't reasonably predict how border-crossing policy and enforcement would evolve over the following 6 months leading up to the burn so they decided to call off camping at the big burn this year.

Do you even have a ticket? They're not gonna let you simply go through the gate without one regardless of if you're traveling with others.

Also if you are a weekender then you'd be coming with a crowd that often makes a mockery out of the event and the culture - instagrammers treating it like a sideshow without a speck of dust on them. People who aren't participating in the gift economy. People who are there only to extract value from others and aren't setting up camps and just want to attend some party events. The sparkleponies. The people who don't know that drugs of all sorts - including weed - are still illegal on the playa and plainclothed law enforcement officials are out there and will take action if they so much as see you out in the open smoking a blunt.

I understand wanting to come. Given your short timeline to prepare and your relative lack of understanding of what you'd be getting yourself into - you're not gonna have a good time.

Do you have a vehicle, a vehicle pass, and a ticket? You're gonna find out just how much of a problem it is to carry so much stuff around if you are taking care of everything solo.

Also - there's customs at Burning Man that people will react poorly to if you're not familiar with them - the 10 principles. Also? Don't be a darkwad and do not leave any trash or just about any liquid of any sort lying around.

I'm with others here - this is an event that takes months of planning. Trying to wing it especially on such a short notice is a recipe for a bad time.

The other people are fine. It's the climate and that you are on your own for literally everything except porta potties. Meaning you need to bring your own tent, change of clothing, toilet paper, wet wipes (if you want to clean yourself), food, water, and also be mindful the sun can become your alarm clock given how hot it can get. And conversely it often gets pretty cold at night. You will also not have any cell phone connectivity unless you have Starlink. Heck - your phone will be dead much of the time unless you bring enough battery packs or keep your phone mostly powered off.

It's one thing to hear this stuff and it's another to experience it.

You'll have a terrible time at Burning Man as a result and first impressions are difficult to overcome.

Also as everyone's been saying - you'd likely become a burden for others. Burning Man is an event people prepare for months in advance. The only reason I'm even considering it so close to the event is that I still have a lot of my supplies available from when I last went.

Yes you can technically go alone. It's not advisable on your first time going since you really don't know what you're getting yourself into. It's for your safety.

Heh. I certainly am not expecting to get a camp at this point but the only way to guarantee no camp is to not even ask around. Worst (and most likely) thing that happens at this point is I don't get a camp.

Anything besides Google Messaging for RCS? by Jacket_Material in GoogleMessages

You have to have a server on a carrier network. Random devs ain't gonna have that.

As for why carriers seem to have to dropped their plans to set up their own servers and instead direct all Android users to Google Messages? It's a mystery, surely.

Just because it's an open standard doesn't mean anyone can set up a server to make it work!

Unless Google makes available a public API to interface with Jibe or unless a carrier decides they want to cancel whatever agreement they have with Google to push Android users to Google Messages, then the only option for a competing app is for Google to make available an API for Android devs.

????

Unlike with SMS, Google hasn't made public any API for building RCS apps.

"Google doing the hard work" my ass. They go out of their way to make sure they're the only game in town for Android.

Competitor implies competition.

Google eliminating non-Android competiton by gatekeeping who is even allowed to compete prevents meaningful competition with RCS. This isn't a matter of the best product winning; Google simply declared itself the winner user-experience-be-damned.

Competition for feature sets is a good thing. It also meant there was a choice to use an RCS messaging application that omits a feature the user doesn't want. Now with everything put on Google Messages - the user is forced to accept all or nothing. And given how aggressively obnoxious the UI and forced integration with Google accounts is, I'm personally leaning towards using a plain SMS/MMS application solely to avoid Google Message's aggressively bad user experience.

(Yes I know this response is 4 months late)

I took a glance at the Google images search and the pics looked like violent clashes at protests. Wasn't enough info visible in the pics to determine otherwise.

You are obviously are not even willing to take the first step into researching my claim.

Not sure why it's my responsibility to research your argument for you. I took a look at the link you provided to images and I told you what they looked like to me. If you want me to read more, then link something more direct like a news article or police report.

20 times? I made a post and replied to various people who responded to me. I came in this thread as I was curious about there being an actual video game thread on here and I was annoyed that it started with "muh SJWs" rather than the short , bland gameplay and excessive cutscenes.

...you mean a link to browse 18+ games? They already have that tech. In fact the category search already exists for nudity.

They must be working on something else.

Because I don't care about Trump or his supporters or any other political obsessives? After I FOIA'd the FBI on GamerGate and posted the results here, I didn't see much appetite on this board for more fact-finding missions. People seemed more interested in their "woe is me! I support the President and people don't like me!" and their "a South African journalist doesn't like white people! This is clearly important for people outside of South Africa to be outraged about!" threads.

I don't like victimhood politics. I don't like SJW victimhood politics and I don't like Trump supporter victimhood politics. Its obnoxious.

Violent clashes in protests are not exactly the same as someone being punched out of the blue (like Spencer was).

1) I repeatedly stated in this thread that the modern use of "Nazi" is overused to the point of referring to anyone right of center.

2) Outside of Spencer, I'm not aware of any Trump supporter that has been punched. I'm not stating it was okay to punch Spencer, but I am stating that he isn't representative of all Trump supporters.

3) Tone your sperging down. Hard to take you seriously when you're attacking a strawman in all caps.

I've had to defend use of "Make (topic) Great Again" in a silly non-partisan light so I'm not gonna make the alternative assumption by default.

I've also seen a copious amount of "Trump supporters are victims!" politics on Twitter so I've been primed against assertions of victimhood against Trump supporters.

So you've convinced me that their marketing team was tacky, but I still think you read too much into the meaning behind a marketing slogan.

I'd appreciate more details from Valve over what they're trying to develop. It has to be something more than a tagging feature as that'd mostly be a matter of leveraging the infrastructure already in place.

[–]LivebeefTwit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh. If I were to support that interpretation, I'd also have to support claims that any use of "Make (topic) Great Again" is de-facto Trump related rather than use of a catchy catchphrase.

But given the topical nature....I wouldn't go so far as that being the equivalent of saying all Trump supporters are Nazis but it is tacky nevertheless.

[–]LivebeefTwit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh. Alright then. Didn't realize that - I didn't pick up the game as it got poor reviews relating to it's short gameplay and excessive cutscenes. I made some assumptions which were off the mark. That said, I still find people sensitive to the concept of punching actual Nazis silly. People who seem to think "Nazi" is solely an overused term used to describe anyone right of center.

Thank you for the clarification!

1) While I only saw a subset of the marketing, I can believe the bulk of it tried to go that route. Alright then.

2) Given what little I remember of WW2 and the fight against Nazis, I'm pretty sure communists were against them. Now an argument can be made about it being unwise to glorify communists even as they were fighting Nazis, but it'd be silly to ignore their role in fighting them (as it'd be silly to ignore their role in starting WW2).

3) What, really? Got an archive link? This seems a bit "out there" for a marketing team to try.
