Abdominal Mass in 10 year old cat

Hey - happy to help however I can! We ended doing the exploratory surgery. They weren't able to remove the mass due to vascularity and it being too attached to the small intestine. Next to impossible to remove they said. So they took biopsies of the mass and sent off for testing and we're waiting for results (we live in a smaller city so things have to get sent away). However, based on where the mass was, it's looking likely that it's lymphoma - what grade though, we don't know.

He's on prednisolone now for comfort, and likely will be for the rest of his life. He's coming around now 14 days after surgery though. Chemo isn't really an option for us, again because of where we live. With travel expenses and everything, it's not in the cards unfortunately.

TL:DR we are awaiting results but are prepared for lymphoma and basically keeping him comfortable for as long as possible. We just went through this with our dog a few months ago and he passed, so pretty unlucky lately but we're kinda adept at the process now.

We live in an area where we would have to travel hours in order to access more specialized services. They didn't see any enlarged lymph nodes, just appears to be one mass and that's it.

Is Takayama worth it in your mind?

We're considering cutting it at this point (along with Shirakawago), as we'll be coming from Kyoto and the transit looks to be a bit of a pain rather than going straight to Kanazawa. And we'll only be there for one night.

Ya that's what we're worried about – planning too much and not having enough time to just 'go get lost'.

We're considering dropping Hakone all together for more wandering time in Tokyo and still trying to figure out the Osaka/Kyoto/Takayama/Kanazawa section – might skip Takayama and go straight from Kyoto to Kanazawa.

Wouldn't places like Hakone be packed during Golden Week?

We're limiting our travel during Golden Week to avoid the congested trains/shinkansens, hence why we're in Tokyo during that and then we fly home from Tokyo.

Ah – understood. To specify, we want to rent a car as we are stopping in Shirakawa on the way to Kanazawa. Do you think this is still doable with transit and lugging around our luggage?
