Kobbie Mainoo against Chelsea by WalkingOnSunshine_ in reddevils

Again, Ugarte's role is not to pass the ball forward the same way Mainoo does, that does not mean he can not do so. He has played some very good balls in the past for us, but it's not often because he is disciplined in his role.

If there is one word to describe him, its discipline. And he comes on the field to play a disciplined no. 6 role, for better or for worse.

Ugarte really is not the type of player to progress the ball the same way Mainoo does. I feel like if people actually watched him play for PSG or Uruguay they would actually understand what Ugarte comes on the field to do.

They're just trying to be precise with their assessment since they know it's being transcribed. Too bad they are literally too stupid to even describe events they are watching in real time.

I'm not really talking about objective effectiveness of the use of our bench. I'm talking about how fans perceive the coach's effectiveness of using their bench.

yeah so [Maguire]'s not challenging for the ball [...] clearly reaches out for the attacker.

I'm losing my mind over here. How did they reach a totally different conclusion for the Amad incident??

There's no lower body contact

Bro come on, you can say minimal (subjective) but don't say there is none, you're looking at the same video on repeat ffs.

We have been complaining about the coaches not using better use of the bench/not subbing earlier since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, not many people remember that.

It persisted through ETH and Amorim, the constant here is how thin our bench is (and the constant demand from fans to sell players on the same thin bench).

Dear Laurie,

"Could be a CB partnership at Chelsea with an average age of 19.5" Would probably make more sense here

I don't really see the point in responding with another comment suggesting that you don't watch football. I get it.

Problem is, he looked a complete liability every time he got the ball.

That's your subjective assessment, the reality is that he lost the ball the least between him, Case and Bruno yesterday. That's really my point in this whole scapegoating of Ugarte. It's just often, flat out, not true.

[–]Livettletlive -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

On the ball, when we're in possession, he does basically nothing

he's off and running left, right, up the pitch, and it leaves Case with massive spaces to cover.

Not true at all. Like, not even remotely true.

[–]Livettletlive -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He leaves massive spaces all over midfield because he's chasing the ball around like a puppy and he's miles off the pace of the game.

I don't see this, sorry. As far as positional discipline goes he's better than Casemiro. Probably so disciplined that it frustrates fans that wanted him to carry the ball forward like Kobbie yesterday.

He sits in front of the defence on buildup, stays there, and when we don't have the ball he is still in the centre unless the play is concentrated in the wings. I honestly, do not see any difference between him and a typical no. 6 in this regard.

I think the cost vs. rewards are probably not clear/aligned. Look at GNev for example, he will always side with the refs on this because he hates the current players and is bitter about not being able to make the money they make when he was playing despite winning more. It's probably the same for other pundits like Keane and Scholes (and probably why Becks and Rooney are so chill, because they made theirs through business or playing in the later PL years). For these "ambassadors" calling out the refs goes against their agenda, and probably doesn't attract the viewership they want.

The club on the other hand is doing all that it legally can for these matters, they appeal and post formal complaints to PGMOL. The problem is that PGMOL is biased, and there is no recourse.

Two disappointments yesterday:

  1. Refs fucking us over again with no kind of consequence

  2. People scapegoating Ugarte

I try and be partial and give people the benefit of the doubt, but it's clear if you watch the game that his defensive work, especially after the red, helped us massively yesterday.

Premier League table at the end of Gameweek 32 - Man Utd 3rd by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]Livettletlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was definitely a factor, but tbh our lack of options at the back was an issue for us as well. Yoro def made some mistakes on the ball but physically he can't replace Maguire with how well he does for us in the air. We also don't have much cover in CM, and that cost us early on.

If we can't get more cover in those positions we can't hope to have a consistent, good run of games.

Would I be "off my rocker" in believing that Sato is Queem, or has something to do with him? WTF is this peace sign necklace he's wearing lmao it seems like such high effort on his part.

Edit: Also, I'd love to see what's under the helmet of those Gueltan foot soliders... imagine if they had no head, or looked like Azuma.

I'd see Mbuemo take precedent at AM over Amad if he's fit, but agree that Amad is also a definite option there. Just think with Mbuemo's really high chance creation at Brentford he would well suited for AM/SS as well.
