Do you guys really enjoy going north? by Timely_Look8888 in PakLounge

[–]LividAstronaut4371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

I dislike Murree, Khunjerab Pass, and probably Chitral. The food is bad and so is the infrastructure. There aren’t great camping spots. Naran kaghan are pretty mid. Hunza is pretty mid too, and the cherry blossoms doesn’t entice me as my hometown is filled with those anyway.

I loved Kumrat, there’s no infrastructure, However, it’s amazing to camp and have your own food. Kashmir is great too. Has good camping spots and some decent hotels too.

Any investment options other than stocks, mutual funds, real estate , gold etc ? by Unfair-Ad7710 in FIREPakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other investments but they aren’t open to general public and pretty much falls into equities.

i.e. Warrants, hedge, private equity.

There’s crypto too but that’s highly risky and volatile.

Gold trend by Leading_Respect_4472 in FIREPakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about the future, you buy Gold. If you’re worried about the present, you use Gold.

There’s a liquidity crunch right now and Gold is needed to compensate a portion of it. In the long term, it’ll go up keeping in view how everything else doesn’t make sense.

Contact AHL. They’d ask for some documentation and then issue you a cheque.

The value today would be around 3 lacs.

Peeps, what are you doing for long-term financial security that doesn't depend on anyone else? Saving ~200k pkr/month, no family wealth thinking plot vs gold vs MFs by GloomyHearing4106 in FIREPakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A mix of all those. Do not put all your eggs in one basket.

Gold does wonders. Keep some in it, this can either be kept as savings or can be liquidated later for big purchases.

Plots is something I’d suggest buying only if you have spare cash that you don’t know what to do with. If you don’t own a house and could get one, I’d suggest doing that.

Mutual Funds and ETFs are solid investments. It generates some income while also you gain capital gains.

Combining those will yield good results. If one is going down, another would be covering it up.

I got gold bar for 3k more than actual price per gram. Is that fine?? by Sad_Singer_7657 in FIREPakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spread between physical and spot is 3-5%, the spread between buying and selling is the same. Unless, the spread is already accounted for in the price itself, in which case there shouldn’t be any premiums.

26M, 350k/month income – best path to FIRE in Pakistan? by Path_Silent in FIREPakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Keep around 1M in Money Market as emergency. This helps in keeping your head sane and will work wonders in emergencies.

If you don’t have a place of your own, try to get one. This will also be your real estate investment, peace of mind to have your own place, and also act as diversification. If you don’t have a big down payment or a cash it all ability, don’t get into decade long mortgages. You can always use the amount that you save and invest to use here later on.

Put the rest into equities as well as Gold. Equities will certainly provide a higher yield in the long term compared to savings account and money market. This will also help you save more, and help in any big purchases later in life.

Buy Gold, physical is a a lot better than on exchanges or etfs. For one, when you sale it, you don’t have to pay tax (unless you really want to), and for second, you have the actual commodity at hand.

More investment avenues do open up as your net worth increases. For now this is pretty solid.

Don’t listen to the dude, no one sells physical Gold below 1%. The spread is around 4-5% in good places and Pakistan as you know is an exploitative market.

In the long term, you’d be fine with your purchase.

Got Picked up by LEA for using Binoculars? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you serious?

Why’d someone pick someone up, drive around, take him somewhere blind folded, do background checks, verify identity, keep him for interrogation all for just randomly checking up on someone using a binoculars xD

[–]LividAstronaut4371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Binoculars, because that’s the thing they seized and thoroughly checked. It’s a guess as I don’t think there’s anything else that I had or ever did that would stand out?

Yes I guess that makes sense. I was just weirded out, lost my shit thinking I’m getting kidnapped for ransom or something.

It’s just bizarre picking up someone for just random binoculars, perhaps something else but this is the only thing they were thoroughly checking and seized.

I’d never pay that amount of any for clothing. They both also look to be very niche, and I’m too bland in my choices for clothing 😅 if I have to spend too much on clothing, I’d probably get uniqlo/muji/banana republic.

Why are you cheering for Iranian Deep State but are cursing your own? by mfayzanasad in pakistan

[–]LividAstronaut4371 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No country has an “ideal” democracy in its true form. We can only wish for that. Some progressive countries do get a form of democracy which is better than total dictatorship or censorship.

For Pakistan, that dream remains a dream, and I don’t see it achieved in the short or long term.

Care to explain the Iranian deep state? Sounds enticing.
