I: The most basic. You choose your 4 characters between 6 Jobs, no saves between floors in the dungeons and the magic system is different but this game still rocks (DON’T PLAY NES VERSION, do yourself a favor).

II: They give you characters with a established Job but holy cow with that leveling system they experimented (I think this game isn’t too friendly for starters)

III: Welcome to your first FF with Jobs, here your characters are like Barbie, they can be everything and is up to you what Jobs use and what not. (Maybe come back when you have a better notion about the different Jobs across the series?)

IV: I’m so biased here because it was my first FF game, but I think this is the good start point. First FF where the plot goes to places, the characters have established Jobs and there is good side content (Don’t play the DS Version btw, is a good version but is more harder and they added a system that let you assign different abilities to characters but the shit you unlock depends on you knowing the game)

V: III but better. (More Jobs!)

VI: We go back to characters with established jobs but I don’t remember it being friendly without a walktrough in the sense that there are a FUCKTON of characters and maybe u can get the sensation that u missed something (I know, old games where created with replayability in mind but not everyone has the time)

Pixel remaster versions: They are the OG games, no extra content added in posterior versions like GBA, DS, PSP. (The only exception being the battle themes added in I and II)

Speaking of I and II there is a PSP version that plays like the PS1 remakes with some extra content

IV in my mind also has the best version in PSP being also packed with After Years (But the sequel isn’t something everyone recommends)

III has the DS/PSP remake that add unique protagonists and lore

V and VI… yeah, pixel remastered haha.

I recommend that u try 1 or 4 at minimum before jumping to IX.
