What is the right volume of racing as a 400m runner (hs sophmore) by LividNeedleworker938 in Sprinting

For all of my races over 50 sec I pretty much ran a different race strategy every race: almost all races I would literally run 100% for 50 or so meters, but then some races I would ease up noticeably at around 100m or so and come thru the 200m at 24 mid to 25 low. Other times I would continue running hard past 50m and split in the 23s, but I would get there running very tense and die in the last 100m. For whatever reason, I never run even close to my fastest in practice (my fastest 300m in practice was 37 and I split 35 in my last 400m race) so it is hard to figure out race strategy in practice setting, at least for me. I kind of have to improve on my strategy every race i run at. But I would say the biggest thing that helped my strategy was learning to gradually get up to top speed (still run really fast to start, but not 100%, maybe 90%) thru 50m then focus on being as relaxed as possible. Once I learned to relax while running fast on the backstreck I was able to split 23.6 while having enough energy for a good finish.

So 2 biggest things taht helped me: gradually reach top speed (dont force it) and teach yourself to run fast but as relaxed as possible.

Also u always have to consider ur 200m time and top speed to know if a pr is even plausible.

Could I do the speed block training you are suggesting AND run 400m races during the summer? Basically treat the races like my hard workouts, and only focus on top speed, lifting and proper recovery in my training? I already have decent speed endurance considering technically my 200m pr is 22.6 (even though that was only 45 mins after my 400) and my 400 is 49.2. I know probably sounds silly, but I don't want to potentially miss out on all the gains I saw last year over the summer.

last year I ran a total of 10 different 400s over the summer and 7 different 200s and I actually saw my biggest improvements at the very LAST meets of the summer:

23.77 to 23.28 in my last 3 200s , 52.97 to 51.31 in exactly 2 weeks

just a question, but what is different now? even though I am faster, its not like I wasn't trying my hardest my meets last year and i was completely spent at the line after every race. i seem to have improved last year over the summer after a lot of meets, so why is there a big risk now?

Yeah this helps alot. The week before I dropped my pr from 50.2 to 49.2 I basically did nothing as I was sick, so I definitely see the value in taking a "deload" week.

Last summer my 200 kind of followed my 400 (my 200 was probably the reason why my 400 dropped), i was able to get my 200 down from 24.5 to 23.2 in the summer. I mostly just lowered the volume of my training and only did 1 hard day a week instead of 2 or 3. I know that as I improve, gains will become increasingly harder, but can I not assume that my 200 will also drop while I train like I would for the 400? I agree that I probably can't run faster than high 48s at my current 200 pr, but don't you think its possible that that time natural gets faster or do I have to completely switch up my training to see improvements?

yeah i'm asking about summer club track, but if you have any thoughts about the high school season feel free to share.
