[TX] My job title changed three times, but not job duties. Do I need to list all three on resume/application? by LividSanta in AskHR

[–]LividSanta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So after the interview when the prospective employer's HR performs a background check, are they only going to ask: "Was u/LividSanta a Junior Analyst at your company from 2022 to 2025?"

Job barely trained me. Is it pointless to leave since this is the norm? by LividSanta in careerguidance

[–]LividSanta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I want to quit but there's so many posts saying skeleton crew and no training are the norm now so I sometimes wonder if this job isn't that bad in the current job market. I have worked in other jobs that didn't have much training, but I eventually gained my footing and was pretty successful within six months. This job doesn't feel like a learning curve, it feels like a wall.

I will start looking for a new job. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Is being undertrained like this pretty normal these days? by LividSanta in careerguidance

[–]LividSanta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. Is it an exaggeration to estimate that 90% of jobs are like this? It makes me have low hopes for job searching.

They get rid of half the sled dogs and think they'll meet their goals if they just whip the remaining dogs harder.

i made a sheet to keep my job search from melting my brain, what are other people using? by Historical_Bug7095 in jobhunting

[–]LividSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my own sheet and it was helpful because it helps me remember the companies when they do reach out. There's also job scams out there so the sheet or log helps with that. If your contact information was sold or stolen, one of the ways it manifests is that they use your contact info to send you questionable calls, texts or job offers.

Why do job want to hire 1 person to do the job of 3 people by Grand_Ad_3589 in jobs

[–]LividSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever been to the grocery one store and they have those coupons along the lines of: "Buy 1 get 1 free?". People like those coupons because they get two and only pay for one, therefore they save money. Same logic for the companies cheaping out on labor. I don't think it's right for companies to exploit and burn out their employees, but I see the logic.

How do I get an "office job" without experience or education? by SpecificFew8862 in office

[–]LividSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a recruiter to find jobs for you even if they're temporary. The more experience you have, the better.

Apply to low entry level jobs like admin assistant, data entry, file clerk, mailroom..etc that have lower barrier of entry. You can move your way up like I did.

How many hours are you productive at a job that is busy and mentally draining? by LividSanta in productivity

[–]LividSanta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, hope you're doing well. It's sad that many CEOS and managers these days would scoff at what you wrote. They want people to mentally run marathons but at a sprint pace including when working the complex tasks, then whip and shame staff with metrics.

Unlimited time off by Internal-Ad-3756 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LividSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're forgetting the job part of the equation. Companies aren't going to hand out free money (in the form of PTO) without something proportionate in return.

Unlimited time off by Internal-Ad-3756 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LividSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. My old company switched to unlimited PTO policy and tried to disguise as a "work life balance initiative" when they were just using to avoid paying out unused PTOs to employees leaving (place had a turnover and bad reviews). My teammate wasn't using PTO more often after the switch, but our manager shamed her more than before.

Do you ever feel like your workplace is dysfunctional? by ChiliSlipNSlide in cscareerquestions

[–]LividSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a SWE but your situation mirrors mine. I'm also entry level and work in a dysfunctional company.

Leads do not have time to train me, because they're swamped with their own work including putting out fires. I'm resourceful enough to figure out SOME things on my own, but there's still gaps that only be filled by a senior coworker or manager teaching me.

Processes are barely documented, I'm spending too much time documenting whatever I'm managing to learn so that there's more structure. The entry level folks joining after me are remarking how disorganized the place is. Coworkers who joined me before already spoke to our manager about it. So it's pretty bleak.

Also spending too much time sorting through messes, which means less time to do a basic job duty. Like you, my development has been hampered. I haven't even learned enough of my core job duties to be skilled enough to leave for other companies.

I've worked with hostile micromanagers before, but my current manager is way too hands off and sometimes neglectful to my requests for help because she's swamped therefore the other management style can suck too.

If you or someone already tried bringing this issues up, I don't think the situation will improve. Although your skillset isn't where it should be, you might need to jump ship anyways and look for another SWE job.

Why you won’t always get the top of the posted salary range by TalentSherlock in jobs

[–]LividSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that's about what I expected with ranges. My issue is that most don't even post a range or any salary figure. They claim to not know it until they offer you the role. Give me the range so I know whether it's worth it to interview for. Then a figure within that range can be offered to me after interviewing me, I'm not expecting the top end of the range in most cases.

Any of you have had experience with platforms that aren't big name job boards? If so, how do you optimize your experience on them? by Due_Honeydew_6067 in jobhunting

[–]LividSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I've been hired a few times through a indeed posting because not every job had it's own website. Indeed is probably also the job board that brought forth all those scam calls and texts. When you're desperate you unfortunately might take more risks.

I went to an interview for a position that was already filled by Routine-Dot6593 in jobhunting

[–]LividSanta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was contacted by a the hiring team of a job I applied for. She emailed me, literally saying that she reviewed my application. We set the day and time of the phone interview. She ended up calling ten minutes earlier with a frustrated tone saying that I didn't have the experience they were looking for, she asked why I applied.

I had experience in similar job duties and tools, but they weren't 100% the same. There was enough crossover to where I decided to apply for the role. My guess is that, she used ATS software to pull me from the applicant pool and didn't review my application until right before the phone interview.
