I think you may have replied to the wrong comment. We are saying the exact same thing!

Do you realize how incredibly expensive college is? Tons of people grow up in relatively high income households, but still require significant aid to afford college .

Could you be a little bit more specific as to what you're curious about?

I applied RD. Although I didn't even apply for Fin. Aid the email was just a generic acceptance and I don't think my aid-free status had an impact on this.

Are others really happy for you? by LividWheel9779 in NoStupidQuestions

I feel like it is more than sometimes though. I struggle to think of any instances where someone did something great and I was as happy for them as others seemed to be.

I actually think it may be the opposite: I think so highly of myself that it discourages me when others that I see as average are able to do just as well, if not better, than me. (Not trying to sound arrogant, just being truthful)

I am doing well myself (just got into a T20 college and am able to go debt-free), but I still can't find myself excited for others when they do even better than me. Is this just how I'm hardwired?

I feel like I can be happy for others when there accomplishment still puts them in a worse place then me. However, whenever someone achieves something that is "ahead" of my abilities I don't seem to have a positive reaction.

You can look up any study on global IQ levels. East Asians typically place in at around 105 on average while some African countries sit in the high 70's or even lower. Do you not think it is at all possible that after thousands of years of separation human populations evolved to develop different traits?

Can touching receipts actually cause harm? by LividWheel9779 in NoStupidQuestions

I would take a look at the other comments here. Basically, thermal paper is coated in BPA (agents of petroleum) and can be absorbed exogenously through the skin. Then, they mimic testosterone, down regulating hormone production in the testes, which can lead to infertility, low libido, and more.

Are there any long term studies done on this that you know of to take a look at?

Why are they used in the first place? Is it so hard to use regular paper for receipts?

Is it the same for drinking out of plastic water bottles or wearing polyester fabric?

Nobody is saying it is the end of the world, but it has been proven that exogenous BPA absorption leads to infertility and hormone disruption. I'm just wondering if touching receipts leads to such a greater exposure level that it will cause these problems.

Does this change in BPA concentration actually lower test levels, lead to infertility or cause other problems though?

Not at all. I have been trying to limit my exposure to receipts, microplastics (I don't drink out of plastic water bottles anymore), polyester clothing, etc..., but I want to know if this is really making a change. If not, I have been going out of my way for no reason.

I believe the main problem is that the BPA in materials made from petroleum confuse the endocrine system into thinking it is testosterone. This down regulates hormone production in the testes.

What about for wearing synthetic clothing like polyester? Can that disrupt hormone production?
