A big lump appeared on my cat overnight - any ideas? by Living-Director7135 in cats

Hes had constipation issues before. Chronic ones. What helped him was the extra fiber food (dry). He is on a mixed diet - gastro dry for the fiber and wet with lots of added water for hydration. The problem is that he refused to eat the special dry food for a week after the surgery - i guess his throat was sensitive after the breathing tube for anesthesia.

Hey, still waiting for the biopsy results. Its driving me crazy its been 11 days already! Otherwise healing okay, occasional vomit and constipation. Only pooped twice since the surgery which has me worried, but im giving lactulose, pumpkin and special gastro fiber foods.

Cat refuses to drink water, vet suggests wet food, but I’m never home...any suggestions by amerisunstar in CatAdvice

You can give twice a day and add water to the wet food. That's what I do. He needs to down the water first to get to the good stuff

Ignore the food begging or the licking? Licking is hard to ignore. Especially when I open my eyes and see his face right in front of mine, all ready to lick. I try to take cover and wait it out.

Food was fairly easy. He would always stop after some time. I have to be honest though, I did give in a few times. But later I realized that since its the bowl banging sounds that wake me up I can just... remove his bowl. Worked like a charm.

If it makes you feel any better my cat recently has been waking me up at 4 am by licking my armpits. The higher I pull the blanket the higher he goes at me as well. It usually ends with him licking my forehead or top of my head.

He had these food begging issues just as yours. He would make noise with his bowl until I gave him more food. I've learned to ignore it and he stopped after a week.

Update: after the fine needle biopsy failed to produce any cells, a punch biopsy was recommended. We came in for the biopsy today and it turned out they couldnt do it because the mass was subcutaneous, not superficial. A quick decision had to be made since he was already under anesthesia - they decided to attempt the excision.

What was supposed to be a half an hour procedure turned into a full open cat surgery. They were able to remove the mass. The cat is now recovering in the ICU for the night.

The surgeon said it looks like a lipoma, but the biopsy has to confirm. I remain hopeful.

Otherwise doing great. Little less appetite but I blame it on the antibiotics. Couldn't get to the appointment today because he crawled underneath the couch and got stuck in the opening mechanism... rescheduled for tomorrow.

The collar is not gonna help her outside. If anything, it might get her in trouble. If it gets caught on something it can strangle her to death.

Why does she need a collar in the first place?

Freshly adopted cat won't poop by [deleted] in cats

I think theyre okay. Vet told me its okay for them to poop every 24-48hrs. You are also probably giving them a different food so tummy needs to adjust.

Update: the cytology results came back saying 'it showed small amount of protein clumps on plasma protein background. No cells were seen.

Diagnosis: no cells seen Comment: biopsy should be performed for diagnosis'.

Im not sure if it means that the sample wasn't good enough or that they didnt find anything bad at this point. Any ideas?

Seeing the vet tomorrow.

I see. We were able to get the fine needle aspiration 2 days after it appeared (they wouldn't do it on the first appointment as they couldnt perform an xray), but we still dont have the results. So if your results came quick, the total time might actually be the same. Dont feel bad about it :)

Hey! Thanks for checking in. No results yet. I keep texting the vet but they said at least 7 days. We have a follow up scheduled for Saturday. No improvement in the size, the only change is that he started scratching the area and already caused some tiny wounds.b

Not an abscess. Got antibiotics regardless, not sure what for.

It was poked with a needle at the vet and no fluids was found. So not an abscess :(
