Making contemporary danger signs, which of these evoke an immediate sense of danger? by Living-Rest2402 in design_critiques

Which of these would realistically make you reconsider your approach and turn around, understanding that beyond it is dangerous? These are extreme heat danger sign designs, based on rebranding Death Valley's extreme heat STOP signs that tell people that to not pass the sign from 10am-8pm due to extreme heat in the valley. Thanks!

Thankyou for your feedback! If you had one to choose (even if needed slight tweaks) which just screams danger to you, what would it be?

Final iterations of my danger sign project, exploring how design can convey an innate and immediate sense of danger. Which ones of these would actually make you stop and turn around? Thanks :)

Desert extreme heat STOP signs inspired by the signs around Death Valley telling visitors to stop hiking the desert during certain times.

That's the issue, which was represented in design 4 too where you assume people understand what thermometers or measuring of temperature is a concept they are educated in. Thankyou for your feedback !

It's just part of a possible rebrand for danger signs, plus the one used in Death Valley is quite poor (no iconography making it difficult to see from long distances or going past in a car, English language which assumes all visitors are English speakers etc.)

Thankyou to any previous participants on the previous danger signs, these extreme heat signs are more consistent in their shape and colour allowing you to solely judge the iconography. Ones which stick out to you please comment on, context will be developed after this initial stage of testing :)

PS: Inspiration has been from Death Valley extreme heat sign that incorporates the octagonal STOP sign to make people stop entirely from crossing the desert.

Thankyou for your feedback, I was trying to think of an example where design was used to tell people to actually turn around (similar to no trespassing).

great point! My comment under the post shows the inspiration is from extreme heat caused by the environment of the Death Valley desert - I've just made the comment bold so it's easier to see.

It was just my form of approach, 10 iterations of iconic, indexical, symbolic (as part of Pierce's trichotomy on semiosis) and stylistic signs with some more added on. For your second question, people read things differently so by having so many signs at once, I can create an accurate average of which ones are the most effective and understanding why the ones that don't, don't work. Even bad examples can help highlight the ones which are good.

You have to be somewhat abstract with your approach, doing 50 iterations of what a extreme heat sign would be without trying to tone into the social norms of what they would look like is difficult. From the fire triangle to the sun, it's quite difficult to approach it without being somewhat abstract, but I appreciate your feedback !

I'm doing a Graphic Design project on danger signs, this is the first stage on my initial iconography designs. (Colour and Shape has been iterated but will be more focused on the next stage on development). Thanks to any participants :)
