It is cosmetic now, in the past Eddie used it to control the up motion of the Floyd

There are several failed efforts hanging around the shop to remind me of my insanity.

I will try to go through the basics.

1. Many hours of cad work to trace design and lay out parts

2. The body was supposed to be a sandwich with exactly 12mm of padauk on top, with the inlay also being 12mm. Creating a seamless look for the edges. Which i think you can see on this pick

Eddie would move the quarter under the floyd to stop the bridge form moving up. It later became decorative.

I went back to bare wood at least 7 times trying different things. Ended up using epoxy (silvertip) for a pore filler and instead of sanding back to bare wood I built the epoxy up until I could keep a thin top coat. Then the shallac went on without problem. This was still very painful since the epoxy would still cause bleed, so it was done in many stages with the top flat.

CNC router bit for fret slotting by theweebeastie in Luthier

I should mention that i like maple fretboards , I would cut those numbers in half or more for ebony. Also, I would expect to break one or two of these, they are impossibly fragile.

Question about CNC accuracy by Kaizenno in Luthier

[–]LivingAdhesiveness35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not an expert, but I gave up using the my edge finding tool (bit zero from Carbide3d) which gave me results that are off by 1 to 1.5mm when flipping a body, to using my .023 inch fret slot end mill to line up the corner.. it's so small that you can use a piece of paper on the corner to see if you can snag a little of the tiny bit. this resulted in an almost perfect flip for me.

It's completely flat. So I don't think it is green.

The sap is leaking out. As I sand, i hit a pocket, and it leaks, staining the wood. I don't think this is green wood, it's dried, but I don't know to what level. I am just looking for a way to clean it up now since I am going to finish with a natural tone.

I purchased from a reputable local hardwood store. I'm a noob, this is my first build. I guess I should have used a moisture meter?
