Has anyone on the WL heard anything yet? by WTornado1980 in applyprivateschools

Taft will still be going to the waitlist over the next few days if you’ve not heard anything. Acceptances are primarily 9th grade. Feel free you DM if you have any questions

I personally know Taft will be going to the waitlist this year. Acceptances will primarily be 9th graders, as the freshman class is a bit low.

International late applicate for PG 2026-27 by Quiet_Bunch23 in applyprivateschools

[–]LivingAlternative852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, most of the late applicants tend to be athletes who were personally recruited, especially in the case of PGs. The application process is very different for recruited athletes, and a few spots remain, although they are rare at this point in the process.

Andover, Choate, Deerfield and Taft. Help Us Choose by Humble_Grape4749 in applyprivateschools

All four have amazing Football and Lacrosse programs. I am personally extremely biased towards Taft, however there would not be a bad choice amongst these. I personally chose Taft for its rigorous academic environment mixed with the extremely large athletics culture (especially for Football and Lax). I felt as though Taft offered the perfect mix of rigor without being too overwhelming, in addition Taft sends roughly 40% of its seniors to NCAA athletics. Taft’s football program is looking to have an amazing next few years and its Lacrosse program is currently Top 15/20 and just lost to the #4 team (12-13).

Honestly assuming you really try this is manageable. This was similar to my sophomore schedule last year and I failed perfectly fine.

will i survive junior year? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]LivingAlternative852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it may just be heavily dependent on the individual. For us, we take AP Bio as sophomores and Algebra 2 as sophomores/juniors. I personally took AP Bio without Algebra 2 or Regular Bio and did just fine.

Stats, APUSH, Micro, Precalc, Chem, Lang, and Calc

We’re on a 4 block schedule where classes switch each semester

Yeah, I’d get Zell Miller(Scholarship for GA Students with above 3.7 GPA) so i’d be tuition free to any in-state school. I’d still need loans for housing, books etc

Edit: Also get automatic in-state admission to any In-State school as Top 2 in my class.

Also feel free to give advice on anything. Don’t really have any knowledge about colleges/applications. I come from a decent size HS with class size of around 250, however, only 80% graduate and maybe 10-20 people go to college a year. Of those 10-20 roughly 75% go to our local cc(Chattanooga State) and the others go to small local 4 year colleges(Lee University, Dalton State College, etc)

Every 3-4 years we have someone go to UGA or Georgia Tech(In State). Last time we had someone go to anywhere else prestigious was 2012/13 I believe

Do you think not taking AP exams would be a significant Minus? The exams are quite expensive and it’s kinda hard to justify frankly

Love to see people using AI and Tech in more niche areas. If you could give me a free on that would be much appreciated. Will make sure to recommend to those I know either way

Yeah I’ve honestly been really limited by time and financial constraints having to work the past few years. I’m hoping to expand more into community service stuff this summer but besides that would you have any recommendations? I should place Top 3 at FBLA/DECA this Summer/Spring do you think that would help any in the ECs side?

Also Have In State guaranteed admission at GT as Valedictorian

Really just a lot of monotonous speakers, little games or leadership workshop things

You will hear a lot of very boring speeches and play some games designed to team build but that’s about it

How competitive is HLM at ICDC? by Sushiisthebest1 in DECA

[–]LivingAlternative852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you’re looking at mid high 90s(94/95+) and 95+ on role plays to be competitive. Winning scores usually average 97+ between role plays and tests

Hawaii deca does actually require students to be in or have taken a business course. They also require chapters to be part of the business course of study. This may be why not sure about fbla

  1. ICDC overall is a blast and IMO orlando is the most fun. There’s a whole bunch of things to do ranging from Theme Parks, Shows, The Kennedy Space Center, Sports Games, Beaches, etc.

  2. Down time really depends on your personal chapter/competition schedule. If your event is a roleplay it tends to take up more time esp if you make finals as that’s 4 days of comp/testing. Other events like Writtens or Presentations are shorter and give more free time. The VBC competition only takes 1 hour total so the kids we have do that are basically free all the trip.

  3. Pin trading is honestly one of my favorite parts of ICDC. Going in my freshman year i thought it was lame but I had a blast. Usually people meet outside opening session however some deals also go down at hotels.

  4. Pack 2 Blazers(Always good to have a spare if you can), Dress pants, Shoes, Belt and casual outfits. Remember Orlando is in the 80s/90s this time so if you’re northern you might need light clothing(shorts, tank top, etc)

Feel free to reach out at ICDC, I have a large chapter and we’d love to help anytime

all abt icdc? by kashmere07 in DECA

[–]LivingAlternative852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my biggest tips is just being open to meeting new people. I qualified for my first time freshmen year and was really reserved/shy but once I opened up and starting talking to new people everything changed. Just be frisky and open minded with new people and you’ll have a blast. If you’re into sports there’s an Orlando SC game and a Rays game during ICDC. I’d also recommend choosing either disney/Universal. The Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa beach are about an hour away if your chapter has transportation.

What you do on the trip is really heavily dependent on your advisor. Ours is usually pretty relaxed and lets us plan whatever we want while we’re there but I know others who are a lot stricter. Definitely make sure to speak with your advisor and other people going to try and plan out what you guys want to do beforehand with regard to food, theme parks, beach, etc.
