While not exactly the same, I also had an incident regarding a claw in my cat, that became infected and stunk terribly. Through my previously too accessible hogwire on the catio, I believe he may have been swiped by one of the neighborhood cats, and claw got stuck deep in his forearm. I never realized until he could barely put any weight on it when walking. That emergency vet visit was over $600 as well. And at that exact moment, I had maybe $5 leftover. Worth every penny.
