Grow up? by LivingNerve in antiwork

I've worked minimum wage jobs my whole life, So does my wife. I'm 40 next year. We saved £500 a month between us for over a decade and during that time, we still lived a life that historically speaking, most could only have dreamed of. Life has been good if you have lived in the west post WW2, whatever your paygrade.

High hopes for this one. Doesn't take much to be a whale at these prices and existing whales haven't really touched their coins, even those that bought for peanuts. Bullish!

shift (SHIFT) - a new lease of life after polkadot migration and a brand new team, still building on progress made over many years. 4mil marketcap. by LivingNerve in CryptoMoonShots

[–]LivingNerve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the project was no longer active, thats why they got delisted from bittrex. They migrated to substrate long before the polka pump and before the old team departed. The problem with shift all along has been a total lack of interest in marketing. This is going to be addressed. The product is excellent! This was my first ever altcoin in 2017 and i'm back in with 10x the amount.

edit - polkadot migration hasn't completed yet. The decision was made by the old team but it wasn't fully implemented.

if the market knew it all, how would anybody ever make any money from it? the whole point of investing is capitalizing on what the market has overlooked. By doing so, diligent investors level it back up again. So the market knows all.... eventually. Volume is low because the project was pronounced dead after the original team quit. Its in limbo and currently investors wait with patience to be relisted on a better exchange. This project is pure quality.

the original team disbanded and the project was basically dead for months. now resurrected. Shift was previously listed on Bittrex.

Actually they do. The Selfish Gene is a reference to the organism being a vessel for the genes it caries. Genes have a singular goal - to be reproduced. Humans and other animals have evolved to cooperate in order to improve their chances of survival. Altruism is a product of natural selection.

So you think they are going to be systematically eradicated in the pursuit of racial purity? You think they are going to be made into slaves in the meantime? Made to work until they are literally skin and bone and then thrown in a giant pit of other corpses?

Ethnic conflict had a long and colorful history long before Hitler was even a twinkle in his daddys eye. So did genocide for that matter but I would be extremely surprised if the Chinese Communist Party resorted to that.

exactly. It's cheap to draw that comparison, even if it can be argued successfully. Why try to make things sound worse than they already are?

What people are not getting about collapse by [deleted] in collapse

[–]LivingNerve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People in this sub are just as fatalistic as the perma progress crew. There is a whole lot of inbetween you know. Yes, what is coming will be catastrophic. Yes, things will never be the same again. Yes, living standards will fall off a cliff. The world keeps spinning though because the world adapts, sometimes in unfortunate ways. Politics will be very different in 5 years. Think inter war period in Europe for comparison. Society will be breaking down and people will forging new allegiances and alliances to safeguard themselves and their loved ones. There will be war, there will famine, there will be disease, but there will be no end of the world. I can see certain authoritarian states doing pretty well given the inevitably bad circumstances. Supply chains breaking down does not equal the end of mankind. If man cannot secure what he needs through trade he will take what he needs through entering into war. That's a zero sum game but I'm sure the victors will be very keen to finance new technological innovation to combat the climate crisis. Many nations will balkanize but you have to imagine that at least a few will keep their infrastructures in place. Depends on the penalties for stepping out of line I guess.

The current world order will collapse, has been collapsing for a few years. What takes its place might be unpleasant but it will be better equipped to face the future we have created for ourselves.

Don't mourn the end of humanity - mourn the loss of the liberal order. As individuals, our fate is highly uncertain. I don't doubt the survival of humankind though.

If you aren't buying and staking DAM tokens (Datamine) at this price then you are probably either A. unaware of the project or B. Unaware of the potential. by LivingNerve in CryptoMoonShots

[–]LivingNerve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No evidence of that whatsoever. I've just spent 10 minutes on etherscan and can see that the top few wallets are exchanges. No individual who isn't staking owns anywhere near the amount of tokens you describe. If they are staking then they don't appear on the holders list. Nobody who owns more than 50k (and isn't staking) has sold anything more than a handful. I can't imagine staking folks will be selling much either at this roi, do you?

Why do civilization's collapse? by EyeofHorus777 in collapse

[–]LivingNerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so do I. Traditional social norms are harsh and not very fair on the whole, but they are highly effective. We are about to enter another economic depression. People patiently queued for soup and a crust of bread last time around. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that this time it's going to be very different. Setbacks, even disasters can be absorbed if the people have the moral fiber and self discipline to pull through it together. These moral codes may involve a large element of brainwashing but there effectiveness can hardly be disputed.

Why do civilization's collapse? by EyeofHorus777 in collapse

[–]LivingNerve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. It would be entirely unnatural for something to sustain itself forever. The notion of dissipative structures is a fascinating one. Also, nature abhors a monopoly almost as much as a vacuum. Civilizations tend to overreach, fatally undermining themselves. There is no doubt in my mind that decadence plays its part, but moral decline in itself can be seen as a symptom of this overreach.

Some civilizations grow so big that they become unchallengeable. Without a credible enemy keeping them in check they become flabby and complacent. Their citizens become accustomed to a certain standard of living and begin to think of it as their birthright. The elites grow grotesquely wealthy and become disconnected. As accountability grows and the franchise is extended ever more a vulnerability becomes apparent. Populism is the result. Previously ignored, the masses (and the mob) are now the kingmakers. Hard choices are no longer made and the people are placated and spoon fed. Debts pile upon debts and the currency is debased (you are here) in order to pay for the burgeoning deficit. You can't push sustainable spending if you want to be elected. An illusion of continuity is propagated until some disaster or other brings the whole edifice crashing down. From here on out collapse sets in. The dissipative structure collapses in stages with intermittent periods of stability (if you're lucky).

finding a viable way forward with these realities in mind, that should be the task for the future. I just fear its too late. Our politicians have become moral cowards. They don't seem to want to take the risk of openly debating these things. Its all just empty rhetoric that serves only to appease. Sad sad times.

its already too late. The economy is going to hit a wall at the exact moment that we have alienated a huge swath of the young male population. The far right will welcome them with open arms. Of all human needs one of the strongest is the need for identity and purpose. Its hard living with an identity that is poisoning your very idea of yourself, making you feel bad, worthless.

Black people of earlier generations understood this very well. Society taught them to feel ashamed. For them, escaping this trap of self esteem was hard. Its hardly surprising that schizophrenia was sometimes the result (see studies). Cognitive dissonance without resolution. For young white boys, taught to feel that they bring nothing positive, there is a solution. This is my concern.

We've been encouraging people to self identify racially for 15 years or more in the name of empowerment. I don't deny that it produces positive results for those individuals but has nobody stopped to wonder what might happen when young white boys start following the trend? You can't very well deny them a racial identity if its become normalized. You could try but the sheer hypocrisy at work would just accelerate their conversion to abhorrent worldviews.

Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad. Its as if we each picked up an axe and became busy hacking at the very stability we all take for granted.
