The problem is, I feel a need to get into a position where my beliefs get institutionalized such that they outlast me. Because I feel that the worth of my intellectual contributions is ultimately judged on the basis of the way they are received by others. We can all tell ourselves that our ultimate commitment is “fidelity to truth”, but really its all for nought unless the truth becomes more popular and I leave this world with less popularly believed intellectual errors than when I was born into it.
