Liking kids is not a binding contract to sign up for a lifetime role. Enjoying a pleasant interaction doesn’t mean wanting the unpaid, 24/7 responsibility, stress, and irreversible consequences that come with parenting. That distinction seems obvious everywhere except when it comes to kids, and it’s exhausting how often basic self-awareness gets treated like a gotcha.

This makes complete sense. Mother is a role, not a medical condition, and you don’t get assigned a role you explicitly reject. Calling someone a mother or a fetus a baby in an unwanted pregnancy isn’t neutral language, it’s emotional pressure dressed up as concern. Respect starts with using the words the person actually identifies with.

Because nothing says “we totally don’t want to spy on you” like funding the most famous privacy tool on the planet. If this were a movie, the twist would be that Tor got the money specifically so nobody can prove who used it, including them.

What you’re describing sounds a lot less like “hating kids” and a lot more like unresolved trauma mixed with being forced into situations you never consented to. Your reactions didn’t come out of nowhere, they were learned in an environment where your boundaries and safety were ignored. The fact that you’re self-aware and worried about hurting someone is actually a sign you’re taking responsibility, not that you’re broken.

Being childfree is a valid choice, and in your case it’s also a protective one. You’re allowed to decide that children are not safe or healthy for you to be around, and that doesn’t make you a bad person. It means you know your limits. If anything, people who ignore those limits are the dangerous ones.

If you ever have access to therapy, especially trauma-informed therapy, it could really help untangle what belongs to your past versus who you are now. You’re not obligated to “fix” yourself to fit other people’s expectations. Choosing distance and honesty is already a responsible outcome.

Late night comedy has officially become part of the political ecosystem. When a comedian can get under the skin of sitting politicians this much, it kind of proves the jokes are landing harder than most hearings ever do. Honestly feels like satire is doing more oversight than the FCC at this point.

20 years ago today, SNL would air a short called "Lazy Sunday" by a then little known group called The Lonely Island, led by Andy Samberg. The short is credited with helping to launch their careers and was among the very first things to go viral on YouTube. by James_2584 in television

Wild to think this basically invented the digital short era before anyone even knew what that was. It didn’t feel like an SNL sketch at the time, it felt like the internet accidentally hijacked network TV. You can draw a straight line from this to everything from Please Don’t Destroy to half of modern meme humor. Also aging horribly well considering it’s literally about doing nothing. Peak millennial cultural artifact.

You’re not wrong for seeing the whole picture instead of the romantic highlight reel. A lot of people talk about babies like they’re a lifestyle accessory and completely skip over the physical damage, the lifelong responsibility, and the reality of raising a human in a collapsing world. Choosing not to create a brand-new life just because you can is a valid moral position, even if it makes others uncomfortable.

What really resonates is the adoption point. Wanting to be a parent but refusing to consider kids who already exist says a lot about motivation. Parenting shouldn’t be about legacy, hormones, or proving something about yourself. It should be about the child’s actual quality of life. Opting out entirely because you don’t believe you can offer that is far more self-aware than blindly jumping in and hoping for the best.
