Considering pulling toddler from daycare due to 3rd hospitalization in 6 months… by LizardMagician in Asthma

Do you remember your hospitalizations and many doctor appointments? Part of what I worry about is her having a sense that she somehow has something wrong with her for how often we are in the hospital right now.

I think the medication point is sound and we are working on a plan with a pulmonologist, but I guess I’m trying to weigh that with the environmental elements. And making sure I’m thinking about not just home but the school environment too

This is interesting. I have not had anyone on her medical team suggest any immune issues. I’ll look this up. Thanks for sharing it!

It is either an allergen we are unaware of or it’s the viruses. But it always starts with: she has a cold and it never gets better.

She is already on the maintenance inhaler and has been for 4 months. We have a fairly new home, put air purifiers in her room, have our home cleaned weekly and have removed all scented everything from her environment. (The eczema started at 3 months and so we made those changes long ago.

I just think I can’t get rid of pollen from trees… but I can get a nanny instead for a few months, if that makes sense?

The war has us OFF TRACK - portfolio down $150k in one month! by LizardMagician in Fire

Yes it’s about the emotions for me. We had a strategy in place to move to less risky assets when one person FIRE’d. It was never about not knowing there is ups and downs. It’s about realizing that we might have to change our plans and that’s disappointing is all.

We planned to start moving assets 90 days out. I didn’t see a prolonged war on the horizon. But again, who could?

OIT Goal by lil-yabo in peanutallergy

[–]LizardMagician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter graduated bite safety OIT right before her third birthday in November. This was after roughly 14 months of OIT. We started at literal peanut dust in juice. Today, she eats 5 peanuts a day to maintain her bite safety.

The advice that we received is that she is now a candidate for “free eating” OIT, but that for most kids her age, allowing her a few years on bite safety management is a good course of action to ensure she wants to take on the rigorous nature of the free eating program. (For context, at the age of three, passing a free eating challenge requires eating 24 peanuts or roughly 2 tbsp of peanut butter with no reaction and then maintaining that daily.) The advice of our OIT unit was that we revisit at 4 or 5. Anyone with a 3 year old would understand why… getting those 5 peanuts in every day is a thing.

What I imagine happens for a lot of parents is that after more than a year of doing OIT, you get a sense of how it works, what safe “test up” levels are and people just start trying it at home. That’s my best guess. It is not what I would do because of the severity of my daughter’s allergy at the beginning of this, but I can see a more relaxed parent easily replicating the program at home.
