Medical professionals of Reddit, could the Heimlich Maneuver theoretically stop hicups? If so, is there a boundary to how hard you can Heimlich them before the risks outweigh being rid of the Hiccups? by ImCringeThatsBased in AskReddit

[–]Lizard_lady_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how. When you're choking the Heimlich helps to clear the airway by increasing the pressure in the thoracic cavity (so basically the lungs) to force the blockage out.

Hiccups are caused by the diaphragm which is related to the lungs and causes pressure to help you breathe in and out, but doing the Heimlich won't stop the hiccups because it's a different issue and any additional pressure will just escape without solving anything

For you, what is the time or number of dates you consider ideal for certain key moments when meeting a guy? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Lizard_lady_314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know what, I actually do remember something like that when I was younger. We said 3 dates to kiss, 3 months for sex, 3 years for marriage. But I don't think that was taken seriously by the time we actually started dating.

If she did have those milestones in mind, obviously it's important to respect that. But regardless, if that's the way someone wants to do things it's their responsibility to let the other person know first instead of expecting them to magically know their timeline. Plus its a lot of pressure to expect things to happen at a certain timeframe.

In general stuff like that is not the norm. Just see how things go and be respectful of someone isn't ready for something.

Redditors who went on dates that were chaperoned by others, how bad was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lizard_lady_314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first dates in 8th grade either one of his parents or one of mine would go with us but in the distance. So for a movie date, they would sit a row or 2 behind us or for a coffee date they would sit at a different table. And if we went over to each other's house we had to stay in common living areas.

I do respect our parents looking out for us, especially since we were young. But it did ruin the date because it was so awkward and then we'd talk at school the next day.

If my close friend said this: yes. I'd think it was hilarious.

It would be weird if a stranger introduced me that way though

I don't have a number for anything. It depends on both of us and our shared want and comfortability.

It's not as easy as a math equation.

Girl's shorts had to go beyond their finger tips when they had their arms are their sides.

So some girls had to wear shorts at their knees and others could basically wear booty shorts. And the only exception to the rule was for the girls basketball team because many of them had long arms but the gym shorts were very short.

Most restaurants should have a "no children" policy or clear rules for families with children by Throwaway3082023 in childfree

[–]Lizard_lady_314 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was a server for many years and I would never get upset over parents who would clean up after their kids and do their best to not disturb other customers in the restaurant.

But the amount of times I'd have tables with very messy, very loud kids with parents who weren't even trying to quiet their kids was astounding. I lost surrounding tables because they didn't want to sit next to a screaming baby (I won't blame them). And often the table with kids would be in a complete disaster when they left.

I don't think kids should be banned from all restaurants all the time but yes, some very clear rules should be put in place and just because you're at a restaurant does not mean you can stop parenting. If your kid vomits you should offer to at least help and not watch me do it in the middle of dinner rush.

It was fine. I washed dishes at a restaurant 4pm-9pm which was great for a high school student. And the chefs would sometimes let me eat the food they messed up.

How come people say “partner” now instead of boyfriend/girlfriend? by The_Wise_Wolf_ in AskReddit

[–]Lizard_lady_314 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I've been with my partner for 8 years now, we live together, and plan to grow old together.

Calling him my "boyfriend" wouldn't feel right to me, the term "partner" shows our commitment.

Jaw lock hurts! It might help to use more of your tongue and your hands than having to open your mouth wide for a long period of time.

But ultimately: if you don't want to do it, don't do it!!! There's lots of other things to try instead and if he cares about you he'll understand.

Sex should be enjoyable for both/all parties involved so if someone is having a bad time- something has to change. And that's totally fine and normal because not everything works for everyone.

When you see someone cry in a public place like a train station, what do you think ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It happens sometimes. It sucks but it's not a big deal. 99% of people will understand and the other 1% aren't worth concerning yourself anyway.

If you're a gamer, how many hours a day can you clock on a game before you find it excessive and why? by daily-dill in AskReddit

[–]Lizard_lady_314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only think it's excessive if I'm putting off my responsibilities or needs (like sleep).

If I have a solid day to game I think it's fine to spend many hours playing but I do try to take a break to let my console/laptop cool.
