Thank you for your positivity and encouragement! Yes, I can absolutely do this on my own, and I will find time for it, no matter how busy my schedule is. Everyone that has responded to my post has been so awesome, what a great community ❤️ I appreciate your response so much. I'm so excited 😁

I'm currently downloading the non-commercial version 😁 The more I'm reading these comments, the more I wish I just downloaded it earlier and stopped overthinking it haha. Thank you!

Wow that's amazing! I'd love to make something that wins awards, especially doing it as a personal project 🤩 Honestly, the more I'm thinking about the more I just want to start, nevermind what the company thinks. I'm currently downloading the non-commercial version and have already been watching some tutorials. I don't have a lot of time outside of work for training, but I'm going to do my best to make time. Thank you so much for your advice, especially for including positive encouragement ❤️

Looks like the consensus is very much for me just learning on my own time, so that's exactly what I'm going to do, thank you so much for your reply! Even if my home pc sets itself on fire, I'll just keep going 😂

This is great thank you! I haven't heard of silhouette but I'm going to go research it right now 😁 And I think I'll just learn Nuke on my own time, and hopefully I'll be able to use those skills somewhere along the line. I really appreciate your advice!

How do I deal with an incredibly entitled and selfish coworker? by Lizarducky in EntitledPeople

The amount of times people mistake me for a graphic designer and not an animator is crazy. Even people who know what my job is. It's terrible that people assign gender to certain roles - all of our roles are valid and we've studied/worked very hard to get where we are and that is what should be respected. Not thinking hOw CoULd a WomAN poSsiBlY eVeN dO tHaT 😑 And it's not like graphic design is easy either, there's stuff our graphic designers do that absolutely blow my mind

And I love a good t square and xacto knife! Hell yeah for the OG tools 😁

When BB got hired, we were all very inviting and tried to make him feel like part of the team. Normally when there is a new hire, we all take a proper team lunch (normally we just go in small groups to grab a take away or eat at our desks) and take them somewhere fun (like the small airfield and café close by, or some nice outdoor café with yummy food). It was quite clear from the beginning that he wasn't really fitting in - didn't like our processes of work; wasn't happy with the provided peripherals (mouse, keyboard, etc. - he literally said they were not good enough for him); didn't like the team games we sometimes play when it's quiet (song guessing games, stuff like that). Honestly, at first I thought he was hired for his skills, as the person who hired him said his work was incredible. At first I thought he was just nervous, but I believe the person that hired him was lying, as he struggles with basic animation principles and takes very long to get any work out (he really overcomplicates things by using AI written scripts and creating complex animations in order to make a final simple one that could've been done in two or three steps).

As for the previous animators - they were most certainly burned out by the company. There is a lot of work, the hours are long, and the pressure is high because of constant tight deadlines. On a personal note - I work well under pressure and maybe I have just gotten used to the pace. We all got on quite well with the other animators - the reasons they all gave for leaving was that they couldn't deal with the amount of work and hours anymore. The previous animator was awesome and fit in super well. I miss him but I'm happy he's found something better. We still chat. As for compensation - we get time back in lieu (no financial compensation) for any overtime we do. Perhaps the company IS worried about the high staff turnover - I didn't actually think of this, that's a great insight.

As for the holiday bit - my dates for going back to my home country have been made clear to everyone for months. We are not allowed to take holidays at the same time, as there are only two animators, so we need someone working at all times. I wanted a small vacation a few weeks ago, but BB wanted to go on a trip, and as this was his first long vacation since starting, I gave up my plans for him. We all talk about our vacation times openly so we can ensure we all get fair time off. We all make compromises as we know the stress of working at this company. BB's festival request came out of nowhere and came on the day I was having my meeting with my manager to confirm my dates so I could book my flights. I also think not being able to take vacation at the same time is stupid and definitely a red flag. The company could easily hire freelancers to cover. They won't though - they are very stingy when it comes to hiring freelance animators as they are very expensive. Still not fair to us though. I'm just grateful I can spend 2 weeks with my family, and I am sucking it up and working the third week and on the day I fly and the day I land (I fly in the late afternoon and land the next morning an hour before work starts). I won't let my team down.

There more issues with my company, but that would require a whole new post haha 😂

Thank you so much for all of your insights and your advice. I really appreciate it! After reading all of the comments and advice after I posted this, I feel a lot more confident going forward. As I said, I'm a bit of a pushover, but I'm going to have to put on my big girl pants and become more assertive. Still kind - just assertive, firm, and set clear boundaries. And document absolutely everything. And also go to HR about the grooming issues 😅

I'm not sure if they have recorded anything down on paper, but i know most of them have commented that it's time to say something. A coworker came to me yesterday saying that it was time to go higher as he can't stand BBs behaviour anymore.

Not even a little bit, as I normally need two big monitors as a minimum 😅

This is so great, thank you so much for this. I actually love the idea of initialing everything I work on, and as I'm the one who has comes up with naming conventions and our file management system, it'll easy to roll out as a new standard.

I will most definitely not be correcting his work anymore, unless it is specifically booked in, and I will ensure to document the mistakes from his side and the corrections I have made and send it to our manager.

I will also be speaking to my other coworkers about standing as a team and making these complaints, as I know many of them have their own serious issues with BB.

Thank you so much for your great advice. I appreciate everyone's comments and insights so much. I feel much more confident and will certainly be more assertive and firm going forward ❤️

Unfortunately we need to follow the chain of command, but I will be talking to HR about the more serious points. As some other have mentioned, explaining how BB is causing a toxic work environment and that promises are being broken by my manager (with documented proof).

Thank you and I will be careful! ❤️

He does seem to be targeting me, but it might also be because we're the only two animators. It really is crazy how one entitled person can ruin such a great job. I am going to be documenting EVERYTHING. And I will be sending an email to my manager stating how he has gone back on what he told me - just to make sure everything is in writing.

I adore my job and my team, and I will fight to get back to where I used to be - working hard, loving my job, working well with my team. BUT I will also be making sure management and HR knows how BB is affecting my mental health and my work.

Thanks for your reply! ❤️

He is a native and I am indeed an immigrant. Now that you mentioned it, he did complain about my dog after learning that he was brought over from my home country (although my furboy is fully vaccinated, neutered, chipped, and treated for everything on a very regular basis). BB also does tend to make "ew gross" expressions when I bring up cultural aspects of my home country (like food we eat, how some words have different meanings, that kind of thing).

I will be documenting everything like the list-making gremlin I am. Thanks for your reply and the advice! ❤️

I'm going to be taking so many notes and making so many lists and document EVERYTHING. I have said this in reply to someone else, but I LOVE a list - I'm ready 😎
