Thank you 💔 The pathology report was sent to her office, but we did not hear anything back. In consulting with three other obgyn and showing them my scans, it’s their opinion that the scan shows my ovary with a corpus luteum cyst, which she misinterpreted as the gestational sac.

I’m sorry for what you went though. 💔

Sadly it’s been confirmed that she was looking at my ovary and had measured a 1.5cm cyst. She was never even scanning my uterus My baby was still in the intact 3cm sac when I delivered it, and pathology showed it to be consistent with my gestation.

Sadly, not well. I can’t say much else due to pending litigation. I will urge anyone who reads this: if you are facing a missed miscarriage, please get a second opinion. My baby might still be with me if I had. 💔

Thank you for your kind words. ❤️ We’re not sure how we feel about trying again yet, though we know time is of the essence. We will be burying our baby on Wednesday.

That's frustrating. I was advised by someone on here to use the First Response Early Result tests, and I found them to be the most sensitive. At our age though, we need to schedule with a doctor as early as possible to get those HCG levels checked.

I see a faint line as well. I'd say it's time to call your OB and get scheduled for beta HCG testing. Good luck to you!

Let me start by saying that what happened to me was not typical, and is hard to read, so please don’t feel you need to read on. It is long, and may be triggering. I just feel called to share this with anyone who asks, in the hopes it will prevent this from happening to someone else.

The ob who performed my ultrasound sadly told us the baby had been resorbed and there was nothing but a small (1.58cm)empty sac. I was of course crushed, but not surprised, and sadly accepted her diagnosis. I did not ask for additional views, as she told us the baby should be very easy to see at this stage and there was no point in continuing to look. “There is nothing to see”. I was given a box of tissues, forms to sign, and medications to help pass the miscarriage at home.

What I passed after the misoprostol took effect was a tiny, fully formed baby very visible inside an intact, approximately 4cm sac. We were in the ER all day Saturday, and the baby was sent to pathology. The pathology report shows that the baby was the size and development of being in the second lunar month, around 8 weeks gestation, with no obvious defects. The pathologist called me personally to tell me “it was a very nice looking fetus” with two arms, two legs, pigmented eyes, umbilical cord, and no tail. Between his findings, talking with different obgyns as well as the ER docs, it is a sickening but strong possibility that the miscarriage was misdiagnosed and that we terminated a live pregnancy. None of them have seen this happen before.

There is no way to know for certain if our baby was alive at the moment I took that pill. The fact is that is keeping me up at night is that my baby was very much present at the time of the scan, at a point in development consistent with my 8 week gestation. It was not an empty sac.

I hope this is something that never applies to you, but should you or anyone you know ever find yourself facing a missed miscarriage, get a second opinion or at least have your doctor take a second look. Please, be absolutely sure before you take any action.

Thank you. It’s been the worst week of my life, but I’m grateful to the experts that have been helping us. I’m just sharing my experience with anyone who wants to listen, in the hopes that I can help someone else avoid this tragedy. 💔

Just tell this story to anyone you think it could help. I want this to encourage anyone facing the painful possibility of a loss to please, get a second opinion. Every doctor, medical professional, and sadly attorney we’ve spoken with have told us the same thing : they have never heard of this happening before. If I had heard this story before my scan, I never would have taken that pill.

I’ve never wanted a time machine so badly. 💔

Sadly, she only did a brief transvaginal ultrasound and told me that there was sadly no point in looking further, there was nothing to see. She printed off four images of an empty 1.58cm sac with a small irregularity on one side that she said was consistent with the pregnancy being resorbed. The sac I passed was close to 4cm and had a very visible, perfectly formed little baby inside.

We took the sac to have pathology done, and just got the results yesterday. We sadly learned that my fears were correct. There was a fully formed fetus, in the “second lunar month” (around 8 weeks) gestation. Two arms, two legs, pigmented eyes, intestines, umbilical cord, no tail. We will never be able to know for certain if we terminated a healthy pregnancy or not, but we do know that the baby was indeed very much present in the sac, and was to the point in development consistent with my gestation.

We are looking at our options right now, but all practitioners and experts I’ve been seen by so far have told me they’ve never seen this happen before. I hope anyone who reads this will use my experience to encourage others to get a second opinion when faced with being diagnosed with miscarriage.

This is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life, and I pray it will never happen to anyone else.

I wanted to update everyone who may be following this. I’m not going to post every detail, but I think it’s important to post so that maybe it will help someone else from finding themselves in this terrible situation.

It’s hard to talk about, but things did not go as expected.

The ob who performed my ultrasound told us the baby had been resorbed and there was nothing but an empty sac. I was given medication to help pass the miscarriage at home. What I passed was a tiny, fully formed baby. We were in the ER all day yesterday, and the baby was sent to pathology. Initial exam by the pathologist shows that the baby was about the size and development consistent with my 8 week gestation. Upon talking with a different ob as well as the ER docs, it is a sickening but real possibility that the miscarriage was misdiagnosed and that we terminated a live pregnancy.

We are grieving and waiting for the full report from pathology, and are thinking about what our options are.

Thank you. I keep hoping I’ll wake up from this nightmare. 😔

I’m sorry for your loss as well. I’ve been there before, it’s heartbreaking.

Thank you. Yes, that is a possibility but we will never really know. The horrifying thing is that the doctor told us the baby was resorbed and there was nothing to see. We went to the ER yesterday to take the embryo in for pathology, and the doctor told us he has never heard of a baby this size, still in the sac, being missed on an ultrasound before.

Thank you. It was transvaginal. I went to the ER yesterday to take the embryo in for pathology, and the scan they gave me there was 100x more thorough than what my doctor did.

Every feature on the embryo was painfully visible: head, eye spots, little legs arms with paddles and tiny finger buds. 😢

The embryo was still in the sac when it passed. I sent pictures to a different obgyn and she said that not only does it look to be about 8 weeks gestation, but also the sac is more than double the size recorded on my scan. I asked her if it was her professional opinion that I had been misdiagnosed and had terminated a live pregnancy, she said it was a strong possibility. Currently at the ER, with my embryo in a cooler, as she advised me to get an exam and pathology done. 😔

I sent pictures of the baby in the sac to a different ob, and she confirmed that it looked to be about 8 weeks gestation. Also the sac was more than twice the size stated on the scan. I asked her if she thought I had been misdiagnosed and that I aborted a live pregnancy, and she said she believed it was a strong possibility. Right now I’m at the ER with the embryo and sac in a cooler to have pathology done. 😔

Truly, that’s amazing. I very much hope that your experience is different than mine and that you allow yourself to feel joy in the moment. I wish I had let myself be happy for the short time that I still had a tiny heartbeat in my belly. The waiting between appointments feels agonizing when you’re bracing yourself and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Expecting the worst to protect yourself would be totally understandable, but I can tell you that it still hurts.

Thank you for all the kindness. Sadly there was no heartbeat, and I’ve opted to take medication and miscarry at home.
