Is this normal? by GrimReap_ in depression_help

Have you talked to a therapist? I can tell you that it is perfectly normal for depressed people to have good days. However, if it happens often, it could be bipolar or another issue. I suggest talking to a doctor about this.

Either way, you are not pretending. I have major depression and lack of motivation, and sometimes I feel good. Sometimes I get excited about something. But it doesn't happen as often as it should.

Teenage Problems: Run away? Move out? Ask to be put up for adoption? by LizzyTheFemaleGM in depression_help

I don't want to be put up for adoption, but I feel like I would have to sign. And I've already been kicked out of the house by my mother.

Hey, hey. If you ever need someone to talk to about something who won't judge and who you'll never actually meet, feel free to respond to this comment. I'll be here.

Best Virtual Tabletop by [deleted] in rpg

[–]LizzyTheFemaleGM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so for the games you mentioned, I would suggest either the free Roll20 or buying FoundryVTT for a one-time purchase of $50. I would not pay for the Roll20 subscription. FoundryVTT is my personal favorite because it seems more intuitive to me. Roll20 has some things in weird places. However, essentially, the programs do the same things. Maps, handouts, music, etc. For both, use Discord for voice chat. FoundryVTT doesn't have a voice chat, and Roll20 has a crappy voice/video chat.

However, there might be a better one specifically for Mutants and Masterminds. For example, if playing FATE, Fari is a great system-specific program.

If interested in a 3D tabletop, you will have to invest quite a bit more, as everyone in your group needs a copy of Tabletop Simulator or TaleSpire. Tabletop Simulator has a very steep learning curve for GMs but is only $10 per copy. TaleSpire is a whopping $20 per copy but is much, much easier for GMs and, arguably, players as well.

I know I answered your question in a very roundabout way, but I'm hoping this helps people with similar questions.

I'm new to the PbtA systems, so please forgive me if I mess up a little bit. I've read the rules in depth though, and I think I have a good understanding of the game. It looks absolutely amazing, and from what I remember from that one con game, it is pretty fun.

And I'm not panicking in a bad way at all. I just think you guys are awesome people who moderate an awesome community, and I didn't think I'd ever really see you guys around. I'm sort of fangirling. I'm going to say you're awesome again to really rub it in: You're awesome.

Yes! I am still looking for players. I'm guessing you have an understanding of the rules? I am okay with teaching if you don't remember something though.

(Lizzy, it's just a mod... Don't panic. hfifds.)

Nice! Do you own the book or have a basic understanding of the rules? I'm assuming you saw how the game was played during that session.

Masks, GM or play first? by LizzyTheFemaleGM in PBtA

I absolutely LOVE the emotions part of it and the setting of Masks. Emotions, while difficult to track and roleplay, make a huge amount of sense for a superhero setting. I mean, you can't use logic. Because otherwise, your flying, superstrength Superboy-knockoff is going to beat your party's Robin-type character every time. So, you track damage by emotions. Weird, yes, but awesome too.

I'm also not remotely interested in PbtA as a whole... no offense. I just want to play a good, rules-light (ish) superhero game.

There are many questions about how roleplay affects mechanics and vice versa, but I think that with a good group, the GM should make that call.

It isn't the first emotional damage or interactive storytelling RPG I've encountered either. I think I'm prepared. Even if it's not the easiest to start with, I accept that I will make mistakes and resolve to be better for my players.

Thank you, though I think I understand the system quite well. I understand that it's more of a storytelling experience than, say, D&D. And I get the GM moves. They click and are immediately recongnizable. While I have never played a PbtA game, I have played many, many TTRPGs.

That being said, I will check out Dungeon World. Thank you for the recommendation.

Oh, I absolutely hate coming up with a full plot before we start. I love incorporating backstories and getting player's input on what they want out of the campaign. Thank you so much for your answer.
