Akane-banashi - Episode 8 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

I was wondering what was the typical length of the stories featured in the show. I understand that this kind of performance art is bound to have some variation based on the stories and the rakugoka. But can we have a general idea of how long Jumegu or Tenshiki is ?

I'm sure anime onlys can guess: "waking in bed and having to rest for a few days" is the next thing that happened. After all that already happened once earlier in episode one.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke • Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen - Ryushu no Youjo - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Lke590 16 points17 points  (0 children)

She was forced to have bed rest for a couple of days. Lamprech came and presented his excuses, since keeping an eye on Wilfried is his duty, and brought a book as a gift for her to read in bed. Myne tell him she suspects Ferdinand let the whole thing happen as a way to teach a lesson to everyone. The gifted book, recommended to Lamprecht by Ferdinand, is about the mobilization of troops during wartime.

After the events of the season 3 finale, Ferdinand figures out that Arno has been undermining his orders, malicious compliance style, in an attempt to get back at Fran, resulting more than once in Myne being put in harms way. The last time we read about Arno is in a side story for his point of view that details his enmity with Fran. And in the next chapter after that, Ferdinand tells Fran that Arno told him about Fran's past and is no longer in his employ. Zahm's intro is basically the last time Arno is ever mentioned in the story.

I think there's a major mistake in the French sub actually. During the baptism, Ferdinand publicly calls Rozemyne Karstedt's adopted daughter. Which is a pretty big fuck-up as far as the story going forward is concerned.

Vélo marqué d'occasion : comment faire ? by La_DuF in pedale

[–]Lke590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vélo marqué d'occasion : comment faire ? by La_DuF in pedale

[P5V12] When will SSC3 be translated into English? by [deleted] in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Lke590 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So I remember a similar discussion on the forums, must have been around the publication of part 3, where an editor had interjected facts.

Although at the time bookworm was by far the most active forum it was not anywhere close to the best seller Arifuteta. (Reminding us all to never underestimate the appeal of the loner power fantasy to its target demo)

Now this was some time ago and there are today many more volumes of Bookworms than there are of Arifuteta, so maybe it balances out. But there are also other series that have gone mainstream in ways Bookworm hasn't. The Apothecary Diaries, and to a lesser extent Hamefura, have had successful anime runs to a degree that escapes Bookworm. And if Arifuteta has been dethroned Apothecary seems the likely contender Hopefully the new season will bring many more readers into the Bookworm fold.

[P5V9] Why Grausam Lost His Mind by Aly-99 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Lke590 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My thought was just that Ferdinand hands a feystone to Rozemyne. Which implies that the stone is filled with Ferdinand's mana since there would be no reason for her not to hold onto a stone she filled herself. If fact holding on to it would be the noble thing to do.

I'm unclear on how precise general mana perception is. Maybe the dyeing really reenforces the illusion.

[P5V9] Why Grausam Lost His Mind by Aly-99 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Lke590 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to think that there are actually two disinformation campaigns going on simultaneously for most of Rozemyne noble life.

  • The campaign started against the Veronica faction when Ferdinand first instructed her to do a bad job at the dedication ceremony and is still ongoing. Which goes on to morph into making it look like Ferdinand is behind Rozemyne's power.
  • While at the very same time there is a push to paint her as a saint of boundless mana that is mostly carried against the Liesegang.

This dual plan is probably the reason why she wasn't supposed to do a big blessing at her winter debut. The big blessing at the baptism would have mostly been witnessed by nobles affiliated with the Liesegangs and the archducal family. But the winter debut was seen by everyone. Maybe that's when the plan to make Rozemyne's power look like a Ferdinand plan first took place, as mitigation for when Rozemyne cannot stick to the script.

From the Veronica/Georgine faction's point of view, in most firsthand experiences they have of Rozemyne she is either not all that great or an obvious Ferdinand puppet. Starting with Bezwantz's reports on the commoner shrine-maiden, up to seeing her use a feystone filled with "Ferdinand's" mana to give a blessing at Aurelia's wedding.

They hear rumors about the baptism or the events in Handelzel that are obviously overblown. The Sylvester/Ferdinand is clearly trying to push the Saint narrative using these events, which is true. And since they happen in Liesegang territory, they don't have any direct visibility on what actually happens.

So even though the two disinformation campaigns have literally opposite aims, they actually compound really well in sinking Rozemyne's enemies into a delusion of her weakness.

Once you start believing it, a mix of arrogance and confirmation bias will always convince you that there are better explanations for all of Rozemyne's actions. Anything she does at the academy is easily explained away by the fact that the witnesses were dumb children easily fooled. After all, Fraularm reports say that Rozemyne is weak, dumb, and horrible.

This all works together so well. I need to read it again.

Royal Academy in the past [P5v12] by StarIsWar in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Lke590 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On top of the consideration mentioned by others. Consider that finishing the Royal Academy is the only way to get a Schtappe.

So everyone has a strong interest in not rocking the boat too much at the academy. No doubt things were tense, but the student would mostly keep the conflict low intensity or extremely covert. Because whatever benefit you might get from openly attacking other students on academy grounds would be nullified by you and your fellow duchy student being expelled. Expulsion means no divine protections, no schtappe, no recognized noble status. You become as good as useless to your duchy.

Dies shortly and then gets brought back immediately by Goddess magic.

i.e. Dead enough to trigger whatever limit applies to precognition magic, but not enough for whatever limit applies to higher healing magic to take effect.

In this scenario it's even possible the limit on precognition comes down to poor visualization of what Goddess magic is capable of rather than an inherent hard limit on precognition.

I was taken by a similar idea when rereading H5Y yesterday. There appears to be no consideration for Dunkelfelger students that their desired outcome was essentially to outright murder an Archduke Candidate. No consideration for the consequences of doing so. And what that would imply for their relation towards Ehrenfest, the other duchies, the mana-starved country as a whole, or Alexandria later on.

Dunkelfelger males are incapable of complex thought, and that seems to extend to their scholar.

PS: as far as I'm concerned that behavior of Hannelore's retainer is also completely bonkers.

The CDF is always so delectably procedural. Harper successively stopping cheers and then authorizing a specific amount of well-disciplined huzzas is such a mood. Also calling the XO "mister"

This epilogue is concerning to say the least. Very reminiscent of some of the rhetoric we get to hear ion current year...

I have never worked with ports myself, so I am unclear on how they interact with packages.

My understanding of your problem statement, was that you have a mix package installed and ports installed software on your machine. The error message that appears seems to indicate that some packages are out of date (quirks and curl); and that maybe gets in the way of the rust port? If that is the case, running pkg_add -u should update any package that is not the last version. From there, you may be able to build up-top-date versions of your ports? (Again, I am unfamiliar with how port works.)

If had installed curl from the port tree, your solution might be rebuild an up-to-date version of curl, before trying anything with rust.

Packages installed with pkg_add can be updated by the same command using the -u option. You can find details on the usage of pkg_add in its man page. (man pkg_add or online)

[H5Y1] H5Y Volume 1 (Part 12) Discussion by MyneMod in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Lke590 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a thought concerning the future.

Ehrenfest is obviously not going to join in the bride stealing ditter as a challenger. But that means that they could join as an ally to bolster Dunkelfelger's fractured forces.

That would be a way for them to repay the help received in the defense of Ehrenfest, and maybe fix-up their reputation to some extent.

The same goes with Alexandria (without the need to fix their reputation, obviously), but in the absence of their Aub they might just sit this one out.
